your practice are going to gain from you undertaking this qualification. Maybe you could not take CPD thru the course of your studies? you shouldnt be expected to take holiday to go on a course

Re: Dip AVN. Cardiff is a bit of a trek! are you going to be staying over on the study weekends?
Its a shame that we cant just submit the essay which is what they do at Myerscough. Going to have to memorise what I write! Plan to stay over for study weekends but will only be able to attend the compulsary one at the start of each unit as wont be able to afford to do the optional ones with travel, time off work and hotels.

Re: Dip AVN.
Hi Most of my cases were from 1st opinion practice that I work, but I did take some unpaid holiday to go 'see in practice' at two different referral specialists. Took a few cases where I'd helped the vet prepare for x-rays etc and some of the anaesthetic cases. But it was only one or two cases for each subject.
I think I will prob see if I can spend some time at a referral place. Just out of interest. Love to see what they do there and all the exciting equipement they have!
I didn't need to go till I picked my subjects in the second year and only went for 1 week to each practice. It was really good fun and the vets were really informative on what they were doing and why. I learned a lot and got to see MRI scanning and some more professional views with the ultrasound, even got to have a play and was taught a few moves to find organs.

I have a few second hand books for sale which I used for the nursing care plan bit, also a couple I used for law and ethics, pm me if you want a list. I would definitely try to get the BSAVA advanced manual, and also have used the BSAVA anaesthesia one a lot, also you will need a good physiology book. Also used a lot of the normal nursing books, BSAVA manual, anaesthesia for veterinary nurses.

Re: Dip AVN. Cases required. But thought as i work in first opinion practice, i would really struggle to get the cases. I have never done the referencing thing, and not that good at essay writing i dont think?

would you say i have any chance at this? or give up ? hmmm

When i did my BTEC diploma in animal care i passed with distinction, but i think its very different.
