I don't remember my chicken pox, but I was about 18 months old and had some form of reaction, ended up in A&E because my whole body swelled up and I had fluid building on my lungs, scary stuff in hindsight! I still have scars from the spots that were most angry :(

I got chicken pox as a child, infant school or maybe early junior school age. I remember it being warm and sunny and I was sooooo itchy! Hope you don't feel too bad with it.

oooo dear not nice. i never got chicken pox as a child. my brother got it 4 times, and i was well jealous that he got to have days off school and i didnt, and as much as i tried i couldnt catch them, i hope i am immune to shingles too :/

had it in june last year at the age of 27. signed off work for a week. slept about 16 hrs a day- really knocked me out. felt rubbish for about a week before as well.

I had it when I was 27 just a week and a half before Christmas. Saw an ultra non sympathetic doc who asked me if I was feeling crap, I told him I didnt feel too bad so he said -well I would go home because pretty soon you will be doing. 2nd week was the worst.

I have had shingles 3 or 4 times since ( which I am told is more common following adult chicken pox) and I wouldnt wish those on anybody

I did use calamine lotion (which makes a right mess of your sheets I have to say) it did help but witch hazel was also pretty soothing too. Have also heard cold used tea bags are very good but not being a tea drinker have never tried them

I have the calamine in the fridge at the ready, for when the itch gets really bad if it does. I have been signed off work until the 8th, or until spots have scabbed over. They are still coming out so not sure how long will be off work. Feel fine otherwise just tired and bit drained of energy at the moment.

Just planning how to spend my days at home, think i will be doing my cpd to keep me occupied.

hope the weather will be cool and not too hot or will make itch worse

I got it age 33, 3 weeks off work and have to say really knocked me about. Got a side effect seen in adults where you get inflammation in brain and the pain was terrible ended up at hospital. Hope yours isnt that bad!

I had it age 22! Was signed off work for 2 weeks as i was dealing with the public. Don't use calamine lotion, it makes it itch more, try an emollient and piriton E45 cream and baths were bliss, i had it at this time of yr and it was he'll!

You can get it any time if never had it before, or shingles if you have which is why when my baby had it a few weeks ago I was told to avoid pregnant women because if they catch chicken pox it can harm the fetus. Hope you feel okay, I believe it's more unpleasant as an adult. I can still remember the smell of camomile lotion from me having chicken pox as a kid!

I had shingles last year which is the adult form. had a pain in my shoulder I couldnt get rid of, even went to the physio. Over the next couple of days I got a rash and that was that.

Apparently the virus lies dormant and can reactivate. I had it as a child so dont think its fair you can get it twice

I also remember the antivaral meds cost a fortune!!!
