Am pleased that your senior nurse is helping you and hope your meeting went well. It is such a shame you had a rubbish weekend as it is usually these ones you remember and not the not so bad ones!

I think this is true of any profession though, there will always be the places that think they can treat staff this way. Before starting university i worked as a waitress,a barista and later as a garden centre cafe manager and was treated appalling as a barista!! Much worse than i have ever been treated as a nurse, and as a waitress chefs wouldnt think anything of throwing a pan at you! I think its really horrid that you were driven out of nursing! Not all places are like this, my current placement (im on my 3rd practice) is brilliant, everyone works as a team and if someone does snap (as we all do) they will come and apologise later. I wouldnt stand for it, don't let them bully you into thinking that this is a "normal" way of work because it is not! Obviously we all have bad days where everyone is in a bad mood, or clients are nasty,but it shouldnt be a daily thing.

Hey everyone. Thanks for all the messages!

The senior nurse was so appalled by what happened, not only to me but also to the dog and the practices reputation, that we have an informal meeting with the practice manager today. eeek!

if change is to happen in a practice then the change has to come from every member not just the vets or the nursing staff, dont forget the reception staff or practice managers or anybody else working within a practice. Lots of little changes in individuals can make 1 big change to the practice, sometimes good sometimes not so good.

Respect is a two way street - to get respect you have to be able to give it, and that does mean having some respect for people who are less able to stand up for themselves because if you cant respect their timidness then I guess they cant respect your forthright ways and so it goes on.

There are ways and ways of doing things and sometimes the most obvious instant ways are the ones that cause the most conflict both within ourselves and others. Sometimes you just have to be a bit smarter take a step back and consider what everybody wants out of a situation and work on that before you can get what you want.

I think it does help to talk about it and get it off ur chest. I tell my poor husband all about my rubbish days wen i get home from work, he is a good listener, lets me have my rant, then i feel loads better.

But unfortunately your weekend sounds pretty average for a vet nurse, im not saying that its right to be treated in that way, but sometimes you have to just rise above it or it will drive you mad.

Hope you have a few weekends off to relax untill your next one.

If it makes you feel any better I used to have a lot of times like that!! It is very annoying when you have 101 things to do, run around like you don't know what but some vets seem to just not want to help you at all. Hope you are feeling better and got your feet up with a large glass of wine (or malibu and coke!)!!
