My boss doesnt own the building he rents the space off a large animal vet who is single handed except their receptionist.
Now my partners family used to use this LA vet until recently

Re: L A vet's receptionist docking tails!

If you're a BVNA member I would use their legal helpline, I agree not to go in all guns blazing but myself I would also ensure it was reported (once the facts were obtained) if the employer was unwilling to act.

Re: L A vet's receptionist docking tails!

What happened in the end?

But like Sals said its best to report it to your employer first - they should only see that you were just concerned for future welfare and just doing your job in protecting animals and also clients if they didnt know if it was a vet or not. x

Did the gentleman know that is wasnt a vet?

Re: L A vet's receptionist docking tails!

I think Sals right that you need to report it to your employer first. If you believe you have to go further because no action is taken then fine.

Re: L A vet's receptionist docking tails!

except the client has already been asked the name of the person who did the docking and already been told that they arent a vet - so there are 4 people working in the combined practices ?as it reads from the post. Now the LA vet will know they didnt make the report and the receptionist will know she didnt make the report and the SA vet will know that they didnt make the report so anon or not it wouldnt take Sherlock Holmes to work it out would it? - please be very careful

I think it is desperately unfair to be do anything without your employers knowledge - especially if it has the potential to affect his livelihood and working relationship with another vet or practice, If there is a case to answer then what would happen if the practice were to close as a result of it. If there was a case to answer and it came out the OP had been involved in this what do you reckon the chances are she would be trusted by another employer ( its a small world we live and work in never forget that). If there wasnt a case to answer do you think the employer would be able to trust their staff knowing that one of them had gone behind their back and reported the other vet?

Re: L A vet's receptionist docking tails!

I do understand what you guys are saying about treading very carefully, which is why i think that reporting these suspicions to the relevant authorities may be the way forward..

By investigating this yourself i would be worried that you would become too deeply involved, and the SA vet is also going to be put into a very difficult position when you tell him. Things like this can be reported anonymously and then the whole situation is taken straight out of your hands. Don`t forget that if they are innocent of this then no evidence will be found and they will have nothing to worry about!

Re: L A vet's receptionist docking tails!

I agree with Sal to take it steady and think about the possible repercussions - but wow!

If this really has been done by the receptionist, then some sort of action needs to be taken - but first you need to find out who docked the tails for sure... If it wasn't a VS did a VS approve a lay person (receptionist) to do it? Which VS? Why? Or was the receptionist acting off their own back? Did the client believe they were seeing a vet? Perhaps it actually was one of the vets, and the client is not remembering correctly?

You need to tread REALLY carefully with this one, and find out the cold hard facts before doing anything!

Good luck...

Its then up to your boss who is the tenant to speak to the other vet who is renting him the premises( this could put your boss in a very difficult position if not done carefully and may not only jeopardise your own position if not handled well but also the livelihood of your employer) and presumably if there is a problem the LA vet will then address it with the person concerned.

Re: L A vet's receptionist docking tails!

Amy Homer.
