I'm reading Luke Gamble's book at the moment and it is brilliant. I loved the Worldwide Vet series he did on Sky.

I don't think the vet you are talking about has gone back into practice. He still listed with the RCVS as 'non-practicing'.

Its a shame the article was in a national newspaper cos he really is only talking about a very small handful of vets that he has heard bad things about. "There are 'Cowboys' in any profession" as he puts it. Unfortunately the lay man may read more into it and think all vets are as the article describes, which quite obviously they aren't.

Having said all that he comes across as very passionate about animal welfare so I don't think he's all bad.

Is there really nothing in that that you would have ethical issues with?

I have seen loads of things over my 13 years in practice that I would question on ethical and financial grounds?

I seriously would read the book which puts things in perspective / shows the angle he is coming from.

I want to defend Matthew Watkinson at this point. I have read his controversial book and really liked it, agreed with a lot of it, and felt that it was blown out of all proportion by a lot of vets that probably hadn't even read the book. If anybody wants to read it and form your own opinion based on actually reading his book PM me and I'll try and get you a PDF of it from MW. I don't think he should have been disiciplined at all.

oops - I think I owe Marc a little apology. Although he was involved in the vet-bashing program that already has been mentioned, which I still think was a big mistake on his part, I think I am then confusing him with Matthew Watkinson, who was the vet who jumped on the bandwagon and really pushed the knife in!!

What's the controversy surrounding this vet, I really am oblivious!

We have a famous vet working for us (not this MA chap), I didn't really have any concerns other than they made me very nervous!

We also had Chris Packham come and film in our clinic. I wasn't a fan of having the BBC following us around all morning, I'm not very good at acting natural!

just a thought tho you might get some of his fans following him around - you could always charge them for an autograph or a photo - use it to your benefit
