Thanks for that (haven't had my VT this week yet but will look out for the letter). My ex sister in law to be (now that's a complicated one!) used to take her dog to the PDSA in her mum's name and address as she didn't qualify herself so any method is obviously not foolproof (remind me of my very first practice 20 something years ago where we did a neutering sheme, reduced fees, for those on unemployment benefit. Guy came in with his form to prove his name and address etc and then when we asked for his contact number for the day, said we couldn't get hold of him as he'd be at work all day!!!) How do prove whether you've paid for a pedigree or not though? I suppose if you have genuinely rescued/adopted it, you'd have the paperwork from the rescue centre but then there will be those grey areas where people say they've lost the forms or had the dog from a private/breed rescue, can't remember the person's name, blah blah blah. Plus, what's to stop someone with 2 animals registered at the PDSA then going and buying a third, a pedigree breed, and registering that one too, when they're already claiming they can't afford fees for two existing cross breeds? I guess they must have some sort of formal system for the new rule but I bet it still gets abused!

@ Dippy - Pdsa will alone only 3 animals per household as before, but only one of these animals can be pedigree.

There are going to be some exceptions such longstanding pets already on meds.

Letter in vet times today mentions difference between rehomed pedigree's and those that have cost £500 - £1000 to purchase - a very good point!!

The PDSA have a very new and very interesting pedigree rule now.... only wish Blue cross and RSPCA would follow....

I commented on that to my other half too - we played spot the pedigree pup... well I did while he rolled his eyes!

I noticed several of the obligatory pedigree puppies which they could afford to buy but presumably couldn't afford private vaccinations/treatment for after buying the puppy had wiped them out (I'm not on about the adult dogs as I know people's circumstances can change but there were a couple of very young ones there, expensive breeds to buy!)

Saying this we gave out 10 free IDchipping vouchers 2 weeks ago and only 3 people have bothered to come in and get them done... completely free, no catches...

Just spoke to our local R.S.P.C.A inspector. He said they are struggling to get customers to even get free neutering done! He said they are becoming lazy and can't even be bothered to go to the vets for free, (though they could help the situation by actually rehoming pets to eligible owners without them have their stupid 1000 rule criteria).

Our local C.P.L have 50 cats waiting just to get into the shelter! And yet still people keep on breeding, intentionally or not!

It is massively frustrating and I only wish these charities would put their heads together, set up some strict rules and be united in enforcing neutering and vaccination.

Think it showed what a great CEO the Blue Cross has as well as how hard the staff work. It got the Staffie over-breeding problem across well too. I really hope a lot of Blue Cross / PDSA / RSPCA clients were watching.

A program that shows the proffesion in a good light? surely not. After all we are all greedy, money grabbing con artists aren't we ;)
