Keep the CV short and relevant.

You could spend a lot of time and money sending CVs to practices that aren't even recruiting at the moment. If you are looking for a paid position then it is unlikely (although not impossible) a CV sent 'off the cuff' will secure a position. You're far better off ringing round to see if any positions are vacant and applying for specific posts, listing specific reasons why THAT practice and THAT position is perfect for you, and vice versa.

Turns out I didn't read Jane's opening post properly - whoops and it isn't relevant.... good to know I wasn't dreaming it though!

EDIT - sorry - didn't read your post properly

You are already a nursing asst? In that case I personally would write a brief paragraph on current responsibilities, areas of interest etc, and explain in the covering letter about how you could be an assett to a practice.

Sometimes I put a 'brief' in my CV, just under my personal details, something along the lines of (just made up off the top of my head) ' Veterinary Nursing Assistant with 3 years experience in a busy mixed practice, seeking an opportunity to join a TP in order to progress with a Veterinary Nursing career'

Do you have WE in a vets? That will make a difference. What GCSES/A Levels etc do you have? I would imagine science based ones will look better.

I have never had a part in recruiting new staff, but plenty of people on here have, and I'm sure they can help.

I thought there was a section on here offering advice to wannabe VN's , but I can't seem to find it....perhaps I was dreaming
