Quick question regarding Nurse Training... A few practices have told me that it is a requirement during training for the nurse to identify dermatophytes/parasites microscopically in the practice.
Is this correct? If so, can anyone clarify exactly

Re: Looking down a microscope?
hey, when i was training you were taught how to do this, for skin scrapes etc. as far as praticals go though, you have to find a dot on the slide with the microscope and write down the venier scale, and then identify the parasites from a photo.
well thats a helluva lot easier than when I sat the exam!- we had to first locate our parasite on a slide and give the reading of the parasite once located
I forgot about the vernier scale! I just had to find a dot too, although in mock pracs our tutor had us locate actual parasites, record the reading, and then identify them.

This was covered in portfolio as well as in theory and practical exams, so you really do need a microscope in a TP - you could call your VNAC to be sure.

Re: Looking down a microscope?

am sure one of the requirements for TP status is that you need to have a microscope. So at a guess you gotta know how to use it. I think I recall having to demonstrate proper usage of a microscope. Can't really remember thou as its getting on for 10 years! Scary stuff!

Re: Looking down a microscope?

I had to find and identify the parasite on a slide then note the position down.
