Can anyone tell me whether taking a urine sample in a boric acid tube will effect it specific gravity result?!
Thanks,

no offence meant, i was replying to the original post - as the specific gravity of any solution is the density of it compared to water, it seems to make common sense to me that dissolving anything in a solution will make it denser therefore increase it's SG, and when you put something in a boric acid tube the boric acid will become dissolved in the solution.

hehe, no worries! I apologise for my comment! I must have been a tad grouchy that day!! Thank you!

common sense would be that it should affect SG

google 'boric acid urine specific gravity'

http://www.starplexscientific.com/Resources/Studies/BoricAcidHandout.pdf

states that SG increased by an average of 0.005 with boric acid preservative (although i would think this should depend on the volume of urine vs the amount of boric acid).
