In response to what someone said about people not bothering to vacc their pup i had a client make my blood boil last night! He came in to buy his cats renal food and asked about vacc cos he's going to need to put the cats in a cattery while he goes away. His words were "I've never bothered with it before because they're cats, if they get ill they either get better or they die." What a statement!!!! I find it unbelievable when he was buying renal food, rather than just carrying on with his bog standard cheap stuff!

yes ur rite the bargain isnt anything of the sort yet people complain about the veterinary fees for treating the poor pups.

i remember a client saving up to buy 2 bengal cats- ended up not bothering to vacc the kittens cause it 'cost too much'. guess what? both cats ended up with cat flu.

Just watched it on iplayer. I agree I hope people have watched it and learnt. Over the years running I boarding eatablishment I have had people telephone and come up wanting to buy a puppy and I have always told them to go to a breeder or a rescue establishment, but many have said that there is not the choice at a breeder of different breeds or puppies to choose from, as if there is only one litter there may only be 2 or3 puppies to choose from. What do some people think ? they obviously want it buy a puppy like buying at a supermarket!

If you log onto www.bbc.co.uk you'll be able to see it via the BBC iplayer. I thought that puppy farms were dying out however, some people see the adverts in the paper/internet etc and see that you can buy a puppy cheap and have it delivered to your house, they think its more convenient that way and they don't ask enough questions. Some of these people are also less likely to go and get them vaccinated once they do acquire the pup.

The scary thing was, most of them weren't bargains, they were still often "nroaml" puppy price!!!

I hope that most of the general public saw this episode, because most of the tricks they pilled e.g false pedigree certs and wrong vax cards - the general public would not know. There was only one other nurse that watched it as this practice, so 2/10 does not give us much odd to stop the BAD puppy farms.

didnt c it but im still astounded by people that decide ' i want a pup, im getting one, oooh bargain' then it turns out to be an inbred ill disaster for want of a better decription.

i had one client that was in a shop carpark and saw some one else buying a pup from the back of a car so she went and bought herself the other pup that was there on impulse! why oh why! didnt c the mother of the pups, had sod all idea of pups history!

then the pup fell ill, and the owners thought we were profiteering from their 'misfortune'.

im sorry but that really irked me! its ok to buy something silly on impulse like a pair of earrings or chocolate but a pup!!

if im going to buy a t.v or something i go and research it, take advice etc. i certainly dont go and buy one off some random in a carpark!

I saw it and was totally gobsmacked that people STILL don't ask to see puppies with the mum - even the most basic of puppy books advises this so they either ignore it or don't research at all. I guess they just don't realise the reasons why or don't think it's that important.

I must admit that I didn't realise there were still so many puppy farms/pet shops selling puppies/kittens out there though. I thought most of them had been forced to close which just shows how much I know!

No missed it unfortunately but agree.Its amazing what little people actually know!What do we need to do to make these people realise what they are buying.Its horrible.But then they come to us and expect us to be able to make it all better cos thats what we are there for of course.
