i also learned to remember it by the 'W" that the prongs make on a wests retractor, mmmmm puzzling, im going to have a look......

ive always been told that west are 4:3... and was told to remember this as the 3 prongs look like a W for west. Travers can be 4:5.

Have i been taught wrong then??

hey, ive just checked on vet intrumentation too.

west are 4:4 and travers are odd, eg 4:3.

Thanks, that makes sense actually, so as a general rule, travers are 5:4 or 4:3 and west are always 4:4?

They can also be 5:4 as well as 4:3 by the way

What Nick said. I phoned vet instrumentation and the lady was really helpful when I was trying to remember instruments for exams
