I had two fillings and a rebuild of my tooth on other side which was fine. Worst thing is my eye and it looks worse today, just so dry and vision blurry. Never thought I should have researched a dentist. Well booking appointment with solicitor this week to try and get my loss if pay and refund. Just finding it hard to go out as feel self conduits. Feel guilty though, their are people that have things like this a lot worse and this feels trivial, like Katie piper who had acid thrown in her face, just have to keep thinking their are people who are a lot worse off than me. Seeing specialist tomorrow and very nervous he is going to say it will be permanent or not know. Will let you know what you say. Thank you for all messages and your experiences in regards to this. Feel very uncertain and nervous at the moment. Just hope I look better soon and can put this mess behind me.

Re: Dentist has screwed up my face, possible bells palsy!

I guiess the course she is attending?
Finally had my teeth done, had two fillings, got a bruise and major swelling come up. This was three weeks ago, I now cannot move the left hand side of my face, I can;t smile or close or blink with my left eye or feel the left hand side of my tongue. I'm an emotional wreck, been signed off work for two weeks as well but luckilly seeing a nerve specialist tomorrow, very worried. Just want my face back to normal, I feel so down about it and to top it all off. I have an open evening with a vets for their in house nurse training program on Wednesday, should I explain or not bother? Either way I am definately going but don't want to scare the nurses, so don't know if it's best if I say something? Feel very self consious and worried that the dentist has cause permanant damage, will find out tomorrow. Has anyone else had these symptoms? Bells Palsy at all? This dentist will definately be reported and I will seek compensation. This is costing me £500 to my course money. Anyone able to give me reassurance due to the same thing? I just want my face back to normal, but everytime I wake up, nothing has changed and I end up in tears. Worse thing was I paid £180.00 for someone to do this to me.

[/quote]

Just been re reading this - something I dont quite understand? - If the fillings cost 180 what is costing 500? a private root canal only cost me 220

Re: Dentist has screwed up my face, possible bells palsy!

I've had bells palsey, on the day my boyfriend dumped me. Knew something was different (about me, no idea the BF was dropping that bomb shell) as I started to tear up food and asked for a straw to drink my coke. My right eye wouldn't stop weeping (work said it was a stye). I called NHS direct, they said it was facial paraylis, and it'd resolve after 24hrs, ignored them and went to the docs, was placed on steriods. It wasn't nice to have and I felt self concious like you. I went to a comedy night and was picked on because I looked so "straight faced" (went along with it, coz really, what could I do) it was right over the xmas period too....

But things are better, it took a while but my face is back to normal. mine was due to some sort of viral thing. I still feel sometimes I'm not right, I feel I don't smile straight but I've looked in the mirror and everything is ok.

I hope things get better for you, give it time. Do go to your team training thing, explain whats happened, we are in the nursing profession and they should understand. I know I would.

I've been told the viral version means your likely to get it again? Is that true? I got measles twice (your not meant to) Must say I'd rather bells palsey than measles! Can eat stuff, as when I have the measles I can't have anything but icecream.

Re: Dentist has screwed up my face, possible bells palsy!

I feel so bad for you, I had this...both sides of my face at different times, I had steroids as I recall at the time, the first time I got it, the feeling took a couple of months to come back even with the steroids, I had to tape my eye shut at night due to dry eyeball, I was terribly self conscious about it, glad you are signed off work. I had to work with it, and its not easy, I was slobbering and trying to talk, slurring words etc. If someone was on the effected side talking to me, there would be no expression on my face...of course the other side of my face was working fine, they'd be asking me if I was alright cause they were getting no facial expression from me. The second time it came back after about 2 weeks, thankfully. I know its not hereditary but both my mother and brother had it...weird! You get so exasperated with it. Hope it comes back for you quickly

Re: Dentist has screwed up my face, possible bells palsy!

I have lots of sympathy for you as know how you feel.

I got all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted back in March this year and my left side of my face has been numb since then! it's only in the last 2 weeks I have got some feeling back in my lips and my gums.

Was warned prior to the extractions that i may get nerve damage and sadly I have.

Been back and fore to dentist several times and just been told it's one of those things!!

On a positive note im glad ive some of the feeling is back although it feels very bizzare after all those months of nothing

Mine was a right upper root canal which bruised quite badly and resulted in the right side of my face drooping. Mine did resolve mostly but took 3 - 4 months to do it. Are you using drops in the affected eye as it can cause the eye to become quite dry.

Re: Dentist has screwed up my face, possible bells palsy!

Omg that sounds awful!
I have to comment on the amount you spent to have this done....was it private? as NHS have 3 bands and the most you should pay for fillings etc is £47, more if there are crowns/dentures done etc

On the plus side, my friend had Bell's Palsy recently (caused by stress/viral infection around facial nerves). It was awful and she had trouble sleeping due to not being able to close her one eye. She felt very self-conscious and frustrated. But it did start to fade after a few weeks and she's pretty much back to normal a month later. She found an eye patch was useful.

I hope you get some answers and manage to go to your training- I'd definitely tell them about it and try to go if you feel able.
