I'l be a year qualified in august and i am on £15000 a year, get extra for weekends. I am lead nurse at a branch surgery and take on lots of responsibility so don't deem this good pay.

To be honest i struggle to get by so a ay rise or chanhe of practice might be in the near future x

It does vary.... I work in Hertfordshire and I am on £21,000 a year, as a branch head nurse. It's pretty good for a RVN compared to other places and I have very good hours.

surveys, average wages, what everybody else is getting will at least give you an idea but what it boils down to is what a practice wants to pay

Just to add...

If you are a member of the BVNA then you can ring them. They regularly conduct surveys etc so will be able to tell you what the average wage is for a newly qualified degree nurse both nationally and in your area.

When I graduated with my VN degree, the practice where I worked for placement and throughout the holidays, offerred me a job at £16k. I told them that I wouldn't accept less than £18k so they upped it.

However, I wouldn't recommend doing that unless it's a practice that you are familiar with. I knew that the partners valued my work and was pretty sure that asking for more money would not backfire.

I was on 15.5k as a newly qualified degree nurse at a large 3 tier hospital in Bucks. That was a 40 hour week with extra pay for night shifts and days off in lieu for weekends.

from what ive seen in vet times etc new qualified seems to be 15-18, i was lucky i got offered 18.5 but i would expect this sorry.

After I qualified I changed jobs. I had an interview with two separate practices 4 miles away from each other. The one was offering 12.5k the other 15k. Guess which one I chose! They range so much.

I think an average starting wage for a newly qualified and registered VVN of around £16,000 in scotland sounds about right, at least thats what the majority of people who I qualified with are on!

from my experience the avergae is about 14,700. then its about working your way up the ladder!

Are many new qualified still earning c£14,000? From what I have heard not many newly qualified degree nurses will accept less than about £16k.

per hour i was on approx 6.50. worked out just over £14k i think. After tax i came home with about 900.

I agree. It all depends on where in the UK, plus how many hours/on-call etc... Around Portsmouth I would say 14 to 18k, (big difference I know, but all does depend upon experience).

all depends on the area of the uk you are working in, you dont say what prior experience you have but i would guess in the region of 14-16k if only experience is during placements

At last practice, 13.5k as a newly qual NVQ RVN with 12 years (mostly refferal) experience, for a 37.5hr week

Rubbish in other words - I have earned more than that as an SVN
