I to am confused have removed probably millions of the nasty little gits from living back home and in Tenerife. Have pulled them like bunches of grapes off stray dogs. As far as l know have never had a problem with disconnecting heads and if l have l have never seen it go septic. I tried a fancy hook a couple of times but gave up and just did my normal rip it off.

Speaking to an aussie vet the other day and she was in agreement and said she wondered if uk ticks had a softer head/body connection that meant you could pull body and leave head in. I hadn't thought of that we didn't think so but who knows.

I have only seen one tick reaction, I've not ever seen lymes disease so I do find there's a little more hype. I do find the heads do get left in, had two this week. Just dug them out hibbiscrubed and left alone.

Wouldn't supprise me if the ticks are different.

Re: Tick Removal
The other myth is that they have corkscrew jaws... no they don't they are straight with jagged edges, so anit-clock or clockwise is not necessary.

The main thing is to remove quickly and effectively, so just put o'tom remover under and pull. You can twist if it makes you feel better, i just find sometimes patients don't stand still enough especially when near eyes.

Re: Tick Removal
I don't go in any particular direction, I just twist it off.
yes I have seen people who use tick hooks to 'lever' a tick out nurses among them but one of them was a vet
