Well only four people were there for our assesment day. We had an overview of a life in a veterinary centre, had a question and answer session with other students and then had a research task to do. Half way through the task we were called to the back of the room to had a mini interview where we were just asked why we want to be a veterinary nurse, told about funding, what experience we had that sort of stuff. i dont think i could have done anymore but be nervous as when i asked i got told there were 54 applicants and only 12 spaces so we will see if i get on the course.

thanks for asking

Re: assessment / interview day at college

Hi Kim,

How did your assessment at college go on Monday? What did you have to do?

Re: assessment / interview day at college

I wish I had a sit down interview lol. hopefully they arent too hard to do . I dont have a placement in a veterinary centre I have done work experience before and have a letter from them to take but I couldnt get a placement for years and if you apply for the full time course which is what I am then you dont need a placement before you apply the college can help you get one.

Oh yeas we saw them when I went for the tour. I love horses but hated the reptile room with the tarantula couldnt get out their quick enough lol.

i dont mind the questions its nice to have someone to talk to who goes their as it will make me feel more relaxed on the day as i have to go on my own as parents are working. im may be 19 but really wanted the moral support lol

Re: assessment / interview day at college

Ah It makes sense now, By the sounds of it you will need be doing some practicals on the animal welfare unit. I wasn't aware they did that. I just had a set down interview. You'll be fine, they want get you doing anything horrible, and trust me everything is so used to being handled that you will find it easy to be honest, if your used to dealing with patients at work anyway, which as we know can be far worse.

The academic may be that you have to a maths and english test, I did them before i started the course. I actually think I falied them, but it didn't matter, they said it was more just to see if you need extra help with your studies from learning support I think.

I am doing some equine practise on Monday with the donkies and the one pony on the animal welfare unit, i am scared of horses

Are you applying for the full time studies as well, as that I guess makes I difference to the interview process?

Sorry I will stop asking questions now, I'm just interested as I would recommend Moreton Morrell to anyone

Re: assessment / interview day at college

[quote user="Kim French"]

I assume they mean the way the course is now structured as it has changed since the NVQ. I think it means that your firts year is now all theory based, so it's alot of learning about anaesthsia, anatomy, radiograpy, theatre practice, general nursing etc...then at the end of the year you have to do 3 exams all multiple choice (mine are coming up the w/c 4th July eek!!!! Not panicking , she says whilst biting her nail!!).

Then in the second year, its yet more theory, but also lots of practical sessions as well, but I obviously have to pass my first year yet, so I'm trying not to worry about the second year . I think that is basically what is meant by that, but I am not completley sure. My interview was at the college, and it was just a chat with one of the tutors. Be interested to know what is meant by that, as I'm just guessing LOL

Good luck

Re: assessment / interview day at college

Hi

Thanks for replying. Its the phrase 'to untake a range of activities which will include academic and practical components' which is scarying me just trying to guess what they are going to ask me to do. The campus is amazing i was so shocked to see it was a working farm with a full veterinary centre as well as a college.

trying to stay calm about it but i really want this place and been trying to study vn for 2 years. just trying to stay postive atm.

My interview day is monday so will update when i get in

Re: assessment / interview day at college

Hi there,

I am currently a first year student at Morton Morrell. The interview is actually not that bad, just be yourself to be honest. Provide all your certificates, I had a reference letter from my practise as well, basically saying how they felt I was ready to do my training etc... Its similar to a job interview in a way, as they ask about your experiences and hobbies.

The tutors at Moreton Morrell are fantastic, I've never been very good at learning anatomy and physiology at school and thought i'd be terrible, but the tutors have made me really enjoy my studies and I don't mind revising.

Llike I said just be yourself, prove your a suitable canditate for the course, stay calm and relaxed and you well be fine.

Good Luck. Let me know how you get on
