Just want to ask you what you guys do or what you think on cat speys and castrates.
Our normal procedure for cat speys and cat castrates is as follows: Vetergesic and metacam as a 'pre-med', then domitor and ketamine i/m, the cat is then

Re: Procedure of cat speys and castrates

Hi we give cat spays/casts pre med vetergesic and dom, then alfaxan . no longer use triple combi

bitch spays/dog casts get premed vetergesic and acp, followed by rapinovet then tubed. put on iso and o2 for op duration.

all get antibiotic either la or 24hr and carprieve.

Re: Procedure of cat speys and castrates

We i/v cath everything, good practice if anything were to go wrong under GA, i have seen a healthy cat cast die (in a previous practice) which had no i/v and was under d/t/k so i prefer everything to have i/v access and an et tube placed.

All but the most fractious and unhandleable of cats are given acp/vet and propofol induction, et tube placed and o2/sevo anaesthetic.

The really fractious ones would have d/t/k then i/v cath placed and et tube under GA

Re: Procedure of cat speys and castrates

Cat spay/cast we give dom/torb/ket and reverse with antisedan, we tube the spays and put them on o2 and iso when needed. The boys dont get tubed unless vet thinks is needed.

Dog cast/spay we give pre med acp/torb and then rapinovet.

Cats are given either i/v or i/m dose depending on whether they are friendly or not.

We dont routinely iv cath.
