I'm really keen to get into locum work and would happily move anywhere in the UK, does anyone have any suggestions on good areas to base myself? I'm drawn to London but I know

Re: Where to locum?

I've done LOADS of locuming around Surrey, its close to London for a night out or a weekend (Guildford about 35 min to Waterloo) and still leafy and green as I'm not a fan of cities. And rates of pay very comparable to London, with accomodation! I have done a long stint in London before and as I have a car, trying to find places to park it etc was a huge hassle, even if I didn't need it for work I was having to shift it a few times a day, etc etc

Re: Where to locum?

I have just started doing some locum work in london and there are a lot of opportunities as long as you do not mind moving around london a bit which is easy to do on the tubes. If you are worried about accomodation many of the places I have worked at could offer accomodation with the work. My best advice would be to get in touch with a few agencies and see which best suits you and go from there. I have been to a number of really nice practices and am really enjoying the work.

Re: Where to locum?

I would say there is enough locum work to get by, although it would be hard to always avoid a commute (even with the tube in rush hour simple journeys cant ake a long time). The cost of living is so high you would be hard pushed to be able to put any money aside.

Your best bet would be to take a job that comes with accommodation if you want to save.

The location really depends on what you want. Ie. north/sout, city/country. Bristol is cool if you want city and country. Also do you want to take a long term locum position such as covering materinity cover or do you want to take short locum so you get around. If the later is the case then you would be better off not getting tied down to one location and moving around with the work and taking only jobs that offer accommodation.

Good luck
