Ooh that looks like a good book, obviously wasn't out when I started my course! I second the bit about nurses watch or scissors, you can get some really nice nurses watches and they're really handy.

Re: what books etc do trainee VN's need?

Depends how much you want to spend.. the bigger ones are about £50 if I remember rightly.

In our first year we were told to buy Veterinary Physiology and Applied Anatomy - Revised Reprint: A Textbook for Veterinary Nurses and Technicians by CAW, Louise Tartaglia BSc(Hons) MSc and Anne Waugh BSc(Hons) MSc CertEd SRN RNT FHEA

and also the absolute bible of veterinary nursing: BSAVA Textbook of Veterinary Nursing (BSAVA British Small Animal Veterinary Association) by Dick Lane, Barbara Cooper and Lynn Turner (I had the older version, but you will want the most up to date version). There's also an Aspinall veterinary nursing textbook but I just don't like it, it's a very large book with not a lot of detail in it and other people have said the same.

I also found 'the handbook of veterinary nursing' by Orpet & Welsh really useful. Nice simple bullet points, handy as a quick reference guide.

You can also get the NVQ2 and NVQ3 books which are useful when you take your exams, but I just got them out of the uni library.

I have a veterinary nursing dictionary too which is useful from time to time too..

Hope that helps, I have a whole library worth of books on my shelves!

Re: what books etc do trainee VN's need?

[quote user="ameliakp"]
