Vet tripping over shoes pick up off floor limps over trying to look dignified and play strong man me not hurt
Nurse throws over iv catheters and smacks heads of everyone.. aux crawls round on floor looking for them while trying to avoid being stood on.. finally finds one, wrong sized goes back to floor ... gives up and fetches more.
Nurese goes to pierce bag of fluid with spike does her hand and ends up pouring blood while cussing
Vet asks whats wrong with patient, age, name etc and gets blank stares WTF he think we made of psychinc receptionist dumped dog and went back to recpt before anyone could speak.
Nurse pulls up pain relief but breaks vial in hand so has to pull shards out.

Those sort of real life everyday occurrences :-))

Hahahaha! So true!

I may have got the wrong end of the stick, but in all honesty I am best in a true emergency!

A simulation, I would just stutter, drop stuff, and do it all wrong!

Re: Emergency nursing simulations

[quote user="Kathryn RVN"]

when i assessed the nvq vetn 3.2

i used to make it up, i'd warn my student that we were going to do a simulation, then on a quiet day, unannounced i'd run in with dying (stuffed) dog in my arms and start telling the student what was wrong, and assessed their response.

it always worked well - even if i did feel like a bit of a twit

This is what my assessor did with me, although she told me it would be sometime during that week.

She enlisted the help of one of our receptionists and her own enthusiastic (with the aid of treats) dog. The receptionist just came through screaming she needed help, I went running through and the dog was sat there with several post it notes stuck to certain areas with "injuries" written on them. Doggy loved the attention she got from everyone once she had her bandages on

With a simulation there is too much time to think and question yourself.... and of course you feel like you have to be tidy! lol

Re: Emergency nursing simulations

simulated is always so much more real than real lets face it reality is always underwhelming for things like this

Re: Emergency nursing simulations

I did this today with my clinical coach.
