Have completely discounted M&S for anything now as they have recently changed their underwriters for their pet insurance (whom I had my dog insured with) and now if you make a claim they increase next years premiums rediculously! Have changed to beloved Pet Plan (should have gone with them in the 1st place) so I don't know if this also now applies to other insurances with M&S?

Re: house insurance cost/company

i found lloyds tsb was the cheapest for me for building and contents ins

Re: house insurance cost/company

Thank you .

I also do not look at companies with which i struggle to get to ay out on animal claims.

think we going with m&s as we have contents with thm. it is a little more expensive but the cover is very very good. x x

Re: house insurance cost/company

the one thing I didnt mention - when looking around any of the insurance companies offering house, pet and other insurance that I had poor experiences with ( ie at work with companies who found infinite reasons for not paying out on a policy) I instantly discounted them - and that includes the big one spending pots of money on tv ads at the moment

Re: house insurance cost/company

I'm with NFU but you cant get quote onlin have to do at local office or over phone. Stuck with them this year without even shopping roun as OH had his bike stolen last year and they paid out within 1 week not quibble at all. I pay about £30 month but that includes bike cover, accidental damage etc and am happy with that for the level of service.

Re: house insurance cost/company

With all things financial, if in doubt, ask the guru - Martin Lewis (www.moneysavingexpert.com)

The forums are great, and whenever I have personally messaged Mr Lewis on there (granted about twice, both 3-4 years ago) he has always replied with advice - may be different now though as he is on daytime telly n stuff, so will have lots of Jezza fans emailing him lol!

Still his advice is great, and the forums are great.

Re: house insurance cost/company

I tried the price comparison websites - and wasnt really impressed with what was on offer. You could go really cheap and risk not having adequate cover in some instances or the other end of the quotes paying out pots for things you really didnt need cover for. In the finish I went through a broker because I found it easier to deal with somebody face to face and be able to ask questions and ask for what I wanted rather than just end up with something somebody wanted to sell me and ended up with aviva, I pay @£360 pa for a small 2 bed bungalow and cover includes accidental injury/damage to visitors. Apparently I am in a flood risk area but the bungalow has never flooded in the nearly 45yrs it has been there and this has significantly increased the cost of my insurance. (if its anything like the quote I was given do not go for insurance through your bank mine would have been over £600 done this way and I would have been paying for cover that would have been virtually impossible to have made a claim against)
