For me Brian is always with me, Ashes are the overcoat, l took ages to sling his ashes into a cupboard as l kept forgetting about them till l was in bed to take them upstairs. I am the last person who wants things to keep and have felt a need to have one made up but l saw the rings on a brochure with the way l loose things their other items are no good As l am allergic to metals l need to have gold and will have the Blue ring as Brian loved blue. I have enough to pay out on other things so it will have to wait till cash flow allows, l have seen what l want now will wait. You can take the ashes over and watch them being made/set into the glass, you don't get to take it away on the day though as a lot of work to do from there.

I looked into plants/trees etc too, but am not very green fingered, and tend to kill plants just by looking at them.

One idea I had was a hardy heather/bush type thing, and when I phoned a few garden centres they were very helpful. I had the idea of getting one that flowered during the month she died, and there was one available, I just never followed it up - I don't know why...

I eventually settled on a container full of forget-me-nots on top of her grave, but, predictably these died, and there is now a nice wild bunch of them in the neighbours garden! Presumably from mine seeding??? (I am crap at gardening!)

What I do now is go and buy a load of colourful flowers every spring, that can't die so long as I water them, and put them in a container over her grave.

Love this idea, how beautiful. And as roses are my favourite flowers i think i will pinch this idea wen the time comes for my kitties.

i have the bamboo casket with my dogs ashes in it - although expensive it does not look like an urn and it sits on my bedroom shelf with his picture next to it and his favourite toy with its arm over the ashes, i did look into the diamond thing but it worked out more than i could afford.

Thank you for all the suggestions, I'm still veering towards to big pot and tree/ plants idea but am going to have to time and advice over an appropriate tree.

I have spent upwards of 2 yrs looking for a suitable pendant for some of my fathers ashes - just havnt found anything that is suitable. If somebody was to branch out into this as a business I think it could do well if it is done tastefully and with a little thought. The majority of sites selling gold, silver or platinum memorial jewellery actually source from the same 2 or 3 manufacturers so you dont find too many differences in product range but you do get a huge variation in price!

If I had ashes made into jewellery I don't think i'd be able to wear it because i'd be to scared of loosing it.

Hi, I'm really sorry about your cat.

I'm not quite at your situation yet. I have a 13yr old cat and he's lovely. He's my first cat since moving out of home and still going. I will eventually be doing something similar but I've started thinking about it already. How morbid of me, I just want to be prepared so I can just grieve when the time comes. I've thought about the diamond and there's someone who does pendents with the ashes in. I may move to a different country in the next few years so thought also about scattering the ashes in the sea.

I would also worry about planting plants as I wouldn't want it to die either. There's a bamboo casket that CPC do that I like. It's not something that says 'Ashes inside this!' which I like.

Hello Loobylou,

Rest in peace little puss.

I buried my Jakeyboy's ashes under a tree, especially chosen for him and then planted in a pot, with the thought that I could take him with me if I moved house. The pot is placed just outside my kitchen window on the patio, so I can see him every day as I prepare meals (the kitchen was his favourite place - kitchen = food!) and chat to him when I'm outdoors enjoying the weather/gardening. I share your concern about the tree perishing though, I do sometimes get a little worried if I spot brown foliage... So, I think the idea about having annual flowers is a really good one - the renewing of life every year profoundly appeals to me... perhaps I might plant a few bulbs myself to further honour my own precious lad.

Furry buddies leave paw prints across our hearts that last our lifetime.

I buried my pooch, I was so distraught, and skint - had no choice - never got the ashes back obviously, and really regret it!

Get them back in a scatterbox at least, and then you have time to find the right thing to do with them.

Don't rush the decision .... I did, and I regret it every day :(

Poor Mr T. He was such a sweet boy. I can only imagine how devastated you are.

Do you remember Rossendale do the ashes back in a photo frame? Not my cup of tea as I find it a bit morbid but it must appeal to some people.

I think Rossendale do a selection of alternative choices to the usual engraved casket so maybe take a look on their website?

I know you are planning to move house so would like to take him with you. I think the plant pot is a good idea - maybe the garden centre could advise on a hardy shrub? or maybe just put summer bedding or bulbs in it so you won't be expecting them to last forever and can be replenished yearly?

Or maybe you can get a garden ornament (stone) where you could put his ashes inside? I know of a stonemason I could contact on your behalf if you are interested?

Awww sorry to hear your sad news Would you want something like a diamond made out of his ashes? I've seen that can be done.
