good for you!! and if they want you or need you to do nursing shifts, get your contract changed, and ask for more wage for nursing duties!

thanks for your replies,

my contract only states that I am a receptionist - and i only just get above minimum wage, so, the nurses are on way more than me!! My head nurse leaves today and my practice manager is who i am responsible to.

The receptionist in our clinic gets a better hourly rate than all the nurses (are you sure the nurses get paid more than you?). Not all practices pay rcvs or bvna membership.

The manager is in the position to tell you of the duties that are required of you the Head nurse can put her say in but the manager has the deciding vote.

what does your contract say? - does it state you will be paid a different rate for nursing duties?

My instant thought is.. as soon as I finished reading your post.. is that the head nurse feels threatened by you as your knowledge is probably greater than hers??

I'm sorry but I think they should be paying you more for the nursing hours that you do.. Put it this way.. my sister works as a chef and does the odd shift as a duty manager - she gets more pay doing the duty manager job than she does chefing.

Have you raised your concerns with this head nurse? she can't speak to you like that, it's not professional and definitely not worth the wage your getting to be putting up with attitude like that.. is there a more senior person you can talk to?
