This isn't the first time the badges have changed. Although I am too young to remember, when the name changed from RANA to VN, the badges were changed then and all qualifed nurses at the time received a new VN badge and got to keep their old RANA badge. Maybe the RCVS will do the same again, although there are considerably more RVNs around now than there were VNs at the time which would have a huge cost implication.

As i said in a previous post I reckon they will be expecting you (obviously not you but you know what I mean) to trade in your old badge to get it at a discounted price

Let's hope so as I lost mine after repeated repairs to the obviously shoddy workmanship. I can't afford 40 quid for a new one and also feel that LVN's should get a reduced replacement as otherwise it is pure discrimination. I have been nursing for over 30 years and chose to remain listed for several reasons. We are all VN's at the end of the day, and should all be treated equally.

seems to me that its another way of penalising those who wish to remain listed and not become Rvns, i'am and RVN, but i won't be buying it.

well maybe the more notice people have the greater the chance of somebody getting there who might start asking awkward questions

But look on the bright side Nick you will be able to read all about what has happened in a special edition of RCVS News Extra.

? wonder if they will be increasing the retainer fees again this year?

So the saga continues.......

Not only are our opinions not asked prior to rolling out the idea of the 'new' badge for RVNs, but now they are holding an event 'in our honour' on a weekday, when most of us will busy working. Surly a weekend event would of been better thought out????

Also why are hearing about this info 2nd hand and not directly from the RCVS???? Surly we should of been told about this a bit a go? Some places expect you to give 4 weeks notice on any annual leave!

Wouldn't get rid of mine even though the pin broke off after a week, the same happened to the replacement badge I paid for so refuse to keep buying them when they break after a week.

They stopped engraving names pre-2001 as mine only has a number on the back althou my Advanced Diploma badge has my name on as well

Up to a few years ago every one had their name and RCVS number engraved on the back of their badge.... a nice touch I think.... not quite sure when they stopped doing it, probably stopped due to cost... but us oldies should all have them engraved

ok i will try and respond to this thread for the 3rd bloomin time

i was at bsava for the 4 days and did not hear a thing about the badge.

i cant see the point of it, they could not be assed to differentiate the diploma badges when the medical one came out (i got the generic blue badge, i was hoping for poo brown or vomit green for medicine)

i'm very proud of my vn badge and i as yet have managed not to break it

oh..............and i hate gold

if i was to get it, i would want to wear my vn badge i have worn for over 15 years and my diploma badge too, i'd be like flippin medallion nurse!

Where did the post from 'diverdippy' go? It was a bit abrupt from what I could see on email? I couldn't find a direct quote on the Rcvs website but have highlighted this from the minutes. "and some members expressed the view that before making any changes, the veterinary nursing profession should be consulted and perhaps opinions should be canvassed from nurses at both BSAVA and BVNA congresses." Was anyone asked at congress???
