Mine was originally a change in tax code but it's just because I'm not earning enough to pay tax now that they had to send me the full rebated instead at the end of the tax year (after I chased them several times!)

I only got a small amount back, about £66 I think, and a change in tax code. I wonder why everyone gets such different amounts??

Well that was worth the wait. After a few *** ups, them changing my tax code and then me not earning enough to get it back via the tax code so having to chase them to recalculate, I just got a letter saying that they're sending me a cheque for £271. Whoopiiiiiiiiii

I'm definetely going to have a go at claiming this, the taxman always seems to get a scary proportion of my wages when I look at my payslip, so it would be nice to get something back for a change. Must remember to claim for my retention fees again as well.

My self and an other nurse claimed tax back several years ago. We had to prove it was our uniform and couldn't be used for anything else (we were inb bottle green and no logo) a letter stating that you wouldn't want to wear it anywhere else and a covering letter from employer sorted that.

Can't remember how much we got back but it was a nice sum better in our pockets than theirs, if i remember correctly our tax code was altered to take this in to concideration (you can also claim proffessional fees ie RCVS fees and BVNA membership - they will change your tax code to include this)

That's what happened to me so I assumed the new tax code related to the uniform allowance. However, as I mentioned earlier, since then, I've only worked part time and don't earn enough to pay tax so in my book, they still owe me!!!

I sent mine off ages ago. About September and had a new tax code come through but don't think a rebate. Does this mean thy have adjusted tax code for uniform?

Well, i went thru the website to claim mine back, was told i would poss get past 6yrs, but got about 150.00, back in cheque , not quite as much as id hoped for!! but my tax code also changed which means i can earn a little more before the tax man takes it!! you can go thru the inland revenue to claim, but they tend to ask a lot of questions and insist that ur uniform is logo'd, so i decided not to, not sure which system ends up paying out better, but hey ,better than nothing, so worth doing i think, and you better hurry as after january, u cannot claim back months, it starts from the new year after that!!! so no back pay!!

Although, having thought about it now, since my code was adjusted, I haven't been earning enough to pay taxc as am only working part time so that must mean they still owe me money. Maybe I'll get a nice little windfall after April....

I think it must depend on geographical area as mine just came back as an adjusted tax code rather than the lump sum I was hoping for

I had totally forgotten I was going to try and get some of this money back...but there has been an articel about it on the money saving website...

I sent my claim off last week- hopefully I'll get a lump sum, as I had a week off sick last month and this month is looking pretty tight. I hate being a grown-up!!

Anyone know if there's a way to tell that this hasn't already been taken into account in my tax code? Would think it would make sense for the practice to tell the tax office that this is the case for all employees? Don't want to waste time filling in forms if I'm not owed anything!

How has everyone got on with claiming the tax back? Just asking as there is 3 of us potentially looking at doing this - Is it better by letter or is there actually a form?! Thanks

I have just had a letter from the tax office with a new adjusted tax code for this year and it allows me to earn considerably more before being taxed. I'm assuming (as there is no explanation!) that this is to refund me the uniform rebate I applied for about 6-8wks ago and that they've chosen to do it that way rather than giving me a cheque Assuming this is correct, good news re the money back but no lump sum for me!!!

Told them washing facilities are for animal soiled bedding and theatre drapes not suitable for personal uniforms, was good enough

What about the section that asks if your employer supplies laundry facilities? Presumably most vet practices will have a washer and a dryer? Is there a way around this? Hayley

Do let me know as I have been locuming for part of the last 6yrs as well so don't know whether they will need exact dates of every placement/gap between jobs (which will be a pain) or whether they can work it out from my previous tax returns/tax codes etc. Thanks for the example letter though!
