Hey

I did the BSc route to qualify and in all honesty I believe that employers actually see the diploma to be more than the BSc but I just think its because employers arent aware of what is covered for the degree. So in my opinion if i qualified through the usual NVQ route then did the diploma I wouldnt do the BSc unless I wanted or could afford to do a MSc

what sort of career options does doing the bsc give you? i was thinking for further down the line as im currently wanting to move into referral nursing.

Feel free to ask any question!!!!

I did the Dip HE CVN and Dip AVN and decided to carry on and top up as it was only another 18 months extra. Thought this was the easiest way to get the degree via distance learning. I dont think it will change anything but it gives me so many more options with my career choices.

Nick is exactly right- perspective emplyers will see these qualifications as a bonus!!

just to point out that Laura is already a qualified veterinary nurse and is currently undertaking the advanced diploma in veterinary nurse. at the end there is the option of topping up to the BSc.

I would contact Emma Gerrard as she is currently finishing off her degree after doing the advanced dip.

The only really benefit that I can see is a) you will have a degree b) you can undertake post graduate qualifications

If you already have the advanced diploma this looks good to perspective employers esp if you want to go and work into referral/university setting.

I started of doing a Bsc in veterinary nursing science but with changes in the RCVS in the way they assess students and other things, I couldn't get a placement alongside my BSc to become qualified. Therefore I got a veterinary health studies Bsc, the only difference is that I dont have an RCVS qualification but the modules are the same as the vet nursing bsc. I finished uni last June and I can't even get a student vet nurse position and I have been applying all over the UK. So I really don't think havin a Bsc will give you any better opportunities than anyone else that doesn't but it may be different if your already in the door of the industry. Hope this helps.

im more than half way through my diploma iv got one more module and my dissertation to do. what advantage will be it be to have the bsc? have you looked into it?

I'm currently doing my Dip AVN too, about half way through at the moment. I am hoping to top up to the BSc if funds wil allow, not sure it will make ay difference to my job currently but would like to do it for myself. How far through your diploma are you?
