I have just got back from travelling in south east asia and my favourite place was laos. it is land locked but is the most beautiful place i have ever been and the people are so nice. if you are in northern vietnam an internal flight would be quick and cheap. loved thailand and cambodia too but as others have said it depends what you want from a holiday

We had 4 days in Bangkok and it wasn't long enough but I guess it depends what you want to see/do. Personally, I thought Thailand was amazing and would go back tomorrow if I had the money.

We were told north would be good in Oct but central and south would be risky due to monsson! The books are so confusing.....they contradict each other the whole time on when is best to travel.

You want beaches and beers, islands and culture, forests and wildlife or museums and cities?..they have it al, at the risk of sounding like a travel agent!. If your going in October, I'd stay south although the North is amazing...Ho Chi Minh- Dalat- Nha Trang- Hoi An and back to HCMC to fly out's a good trip but if you can squeeze it in I'd try get to Hanoi and Halong Bay but it's a loong way and the weather wont be great then (but still worth a trip)

Thanks for that, will avoid the tiger temples, would have hated to have gone and then been horrified!

Am open to all suggestions on where to go or what to do...........what would you suggest?

Also..you can fly to Ho Chi Minh or any of the other international airports and save time. Internal flights are cheap as chips and easy to book once your there!

We have a couple of sancturies in Vietnam so I've worked and travelled a bit there over the last 2 years, happy to answer any questions...Spoke at a conference in North Vietnam last year too. It's a fantastic place to visit, with lots of amazing wildlife!

Bangkok is ok, but whatever anyone tells you, do not visit the Tiger Temple! No matter what you hear from people about these 'sancturies', trust me, from someone working in wildlife conservation in the region, with friends and colleauges who are among the top tiger conservationists in the region-NO good comes from these places. None!

I've been to both, Singapore a while ago, the zoo is good, shopping and food great. Cleanest city in the East. Bangkok is the total opposite, dirty, busy, but visit the floating market, shopping is good in the malls, but DO NOT listen to anyone who wants to 'take you to Uncles gem shop' or anything like that, including, 'it's Kings birthday so no trains/ shops' etc...you can easily be had in Bangkok...
