I am glad you added that last bit - because being a good head nurse isnt always about making changes. Sometimes its just about getting the best from what you have without putting too many backs up or noses out of joint

I agree. I'd see how the land lies and observe how they do things.

Make yourself invaluable to them helping everyone out initially then ease in!!

Hope it turns out well. Slightly off topic, I think you are very brave! My husband is a kiwi crane operator and has been working in Perth since mid March. He's signed to work for a year. I haven't gone because my daughter is 7 and has school, and I have elderly relatives who arent in the best of health. I've been in and out of working down under websites. Also have various pets I can't leave. Am also worried about the flight

Personally I'd go ahead and see how the practice runs before making any changes (they may not be needed) and speak to staff to find out their opinions too. Depending on the practice there might not be a huge difference in what you've done as a senior nurse to being HN but think about any previous HN's you have worked with and take on board any of the thinks they did that you felt improved the nursing team/practice care. If you end up with various bits of paperwork etc to do, rota yourself an afternoon off nursing duties to carry this out - again, depending on the practice and how many other staff you work with means you might not need to, but if you find yourself bogged down this is worth doing. I did this and it would be an afternoon of completing portfolios, H+S, work experience requests and other general admin.

Once you know the practice, the staff and how everything runs you will soon get sorted. Good luck!
