This one is at Whipsnade Zoo, the previous one was at Milton Keynes I believe they are having venus across the country.I appreciate that some people have to 'travel miles' for cpd but surely that comes done to how commited you are in wanting to do something or if you want everyting handed to you.Many people travel across the country - and world - for BVNA and BSAVA every year.When I sat my nursing exams I had 800 mile round trip. Amtra have always been very open and honest with the limitations the course has, it is still in the very early stages so is bound to have teething problems.The whole veterinary profession is changes espcially for nurses try looking at the bigger picture being an SQP will expand our role within practice, and allow clients and there pets to recieve the best possible advice.If you can't cope with things reuiring a little more effort then don't put yourself forward to be a guinea pig sit back and let others make the necessary changes for you then you can reap the benefits without the effort.Until VN's are regulated it is still possible for unqualified people to call themselves a VN some could agrue then - and do - that the VN qualification is pointless!!

I also have a full time job, a part time job and a young family to sort out.Amtra have not sent me any further information than the 'oldies' I enrolled 2 years ago but due to the above it's taken a while to sit the exam.Before I even enrolled I enquired about the cpd and how easy it was to obtain points by asking the right questions I decided against doing the full RSQP as it would be difficult to get the required points.I then spoke to BVNA and several cpd providers to see if it was likely they would be running suitable courses as well as drug reps to get their views and other practices to see how their sqp's found it. So rather than simpy letter chaseing I did my reasearch first. The course I'm due to attend is fleas and ticks by merial.

I agree with you Nicky, finding courses is hard and they are normally miles away from me and also work full time so difficult. Wish I had not doe the course in the first place

I have struggled to find out about it, maybe because you are newly qualified you got more info than use oldies? I look through the OTC magazine each time and most of the CPD is paid for and not local. Also when you have a full time job to work around its not that easy.

You have to care about sqp it is a total rip off. And l have enough points to last till 2011 so wont be wasting my time going to more until 2012 and then will do the min 30 assuming l keep it going.

Wheres the CPD at and whats the subject? Where do you find out about the CPD courses?

Trust nurses to be all doom and gloom about it. Amtra CPD can count towards your nurse cpd too.I only qualified as a c-sqp last week and already have two cpd events booked one free and one for a refundable £10 if you turn up totalling 64 points plus 5 for reading.Get up and take the inititive to look.

Some of us as l say are in a catch 22 over this least everyone else still has an option to do it or not.

I think that is REALLY bad! CPD is expensive enough for VN's so having to double up and do other CPD doesn't seem fair really!

I agree with the dates that they are looking at, but aparently WE are still meant to pay for CPD. Don't know how I am gonna manage that one on the "tampax" money I get as a VN. How many others agree?

So did l as well and asked for details but she said no it is not done yet. The only online section at the moment is part of the learning section for the exam and does not count.

The person at AMTRA said that's why the first period will not finish till 2011so that they can sort the cpd situation out.

Like you l was getting worried. Having said that as far as l am concerned, if they do not supply the cpd then it is not our fault that we did not get points and no way would l pay for a resit. I know l thought there would be more than 1 point per mini quizz in the magazine.

Thanks for doing that as I have been wanting to find out how to get the CPD. They need to sort something out. Its going to take a while to get the required points getting them one at a time!!
