Round the corner from the place I am moving to there is a house on the corner of the road who has a barn owl in the garden.
Obviously they have bred the owl because now they are advertising

Re: barn owls

thank you i was slightly concerned when i saw the for sale sign, i have contacted the rspb to see what they come back with as - as i said to them i want to remain my name quietly as i have yet to move to the area

Re: barn owls

Hello

yes they do need a licence to seel barn owls something called an A10 which they get from defra, the birds should also have a closed ring on them as well. Speaking as a practising falconer myself it is very bad pratice to sell young birds from their front garden and is highly frowned upon as it encourgaes the wrong type of people to buy the bird, I'm sure we've all seen it in pratice, as young owls need special attention and an experienced owner or someone who has what is called a mentor bit like a clinical coach in pratice to help raise the bird.

Hope this helps, sorry about the rant but I've seen so many young birds sold like this that are past from home to home because they have been reared incorrectly ending up in a dangerous bird, those talcons hurt when they latch on! If you need any help let me know I can give you the details of a fews people and falconry clubs that should be able to help. Its nice to see someone take notice and try to help.
