But I really think I'm at that point.
Had a few really rubbish jobs lately, which has destroyed my confidence. Am now on anti depressants - which was a hard

Re: Can't decided what to do :(

Yep there is I still vet nurse part time to pay the bills whilst I am back at uni and I enjoy it but I remember the relief I felt when I finally made the decision to leave full-time vet nursing and return to uni...phew ..good luck to all those just starting out or still enjoying it full-time..keep battling to get things changed..but don't forget there is a life outside if you have had enough

Re: Can't decided what to do :(

yes there is a life after nursing. I swore a couple of years ago after what I said then was the last straw I would never ever do another nursing job, I held out for a year apart from a couple of locums and then took a part time job at a local vets. It was just too difficult to drop nursing after nearly 25yrs. Now the majority of time I spend on reception or cleaning but I enjoy it - I have a decent boss (which is something after some of the 'charmers' I have worked for), I dont do a lot of hands on nursing these days but enough to keep my hand in. I have missed it a bit sometimes but then I think back to how it was before and I wouldnt want to go back to that. It doesnt mean I dont stay up to date on stuff tho.

Outside of the veterinary world I do my counselling and therapy on a voluntary basis and that keeps my hand in with those skills - so really I guess I have the best of both worlds

Ok I will never be a millionaire but so long as there is enough to pay the bills I dont worry and I am probably happier now than I have ever been

Only you can know what is right for you - so what fits for you now when you weigh it up?

I think by accepting you need a little bit of help and going onto anti depressants isn't a bad thing, you are realising that you need a helping hand and asking for it. Thats the first step. Seeing a councillor for what ever your stresses are may be a good thing also.

I am a nurse and find the job rewarding yet very emotionally draining and can appreciate that you would want to move on yet still be drawn to it. This I think shows that you still need to do something within the animal world.

I think working for a practice whereby you can still have a hand into dealing with animals would be great. We have a receptionist who used to be a nurse and has been a receptionist for 5 years now. She enjoys her job as she is great with clients but she still loves dealing with the animals and when we are busy she is a great help!

Talk to your practice and even offer your help when they are busy. Think it depends on your practice.

Hang on in there and think of the bigger picture you are long term aiming for and you will get there.

Take it easy
