Had to bring my 9 year old semi-ferral cat, Churchill, in today as the neighbour found him in his garden refusing to move.
He had a nice little abscess on the top of his head. After about 2 mins of examination he decided he'd had

Re: Embarressed

Sounds like a good time to train your ANA lol... poor you x

Re: Embarressed
That is a bizzare reaction by your GP, was he an old stuck-in-my-ways kinda guy?! lol

Slightly related, I went to give blood once & there was a question about animal bites/scratches, so I ticked yes, and they went spare & wouldn't let me donate!
Young doctor, so I assumed automatically ab's. Usually they are very good there but will write to the practice manager with a copy of the guidelines of how to treat cat bite/ scratches. Might even offer to go and do a talk to them to make them understand the cats mouth and bacteria.... take Churchill along to demonstrate with the said doctor

Well it started going a bit funny over the weekend so I poulticed with animalintex and found some old antibiotics from the dogs cupboard and took them.

Re: Embarressed

That is a bizzare reaction by your GP, was he an old stuck-in-my-ways kinda guy?! lol

I've had two cat bites, for the first I was sent to A&E and the second time I went to minor injuries - both times they just threw antibiotics at me! Maybe go above the GPs head and straight to the hospital?

Re: Embarressed

my cat is the same, he'll have ya if your not careful! He gets covered in care signs (by me) as I want no one hurt, even his vaccinations are given via crush cage!

I've had cellulitis (not from a cat tho), so if a cat gets me bad I'd be demanding antibiotics, I'm not going through that again! However, I find I've been lucky *touches wood* and not got cat scratch fever, even after working with cat breeders and my arms looking like I'd really attacked myself!

Hope you are ok.

Re: Embarressed

We have an info sheet from VDS about cat bites. But that is an awfully ignorant Dr! Last time I went, I only mentioned "cat bite" and they booked me in straight away and I got 2 types of antibiotics!

Re: Embarressed

That'll be great, thank you Sal x

Re: Embarressed

there is an info sheet produced by either FAB or BSAVA that I used to give a copy to anybody suffering a cat bite to take to their GP. I have had this problem before - most doctors are more concerned about tetanus and MRSA and forget that most infected cat bites are from Pasteurella or staph. Will see if I can look one out

Re: Embarressed

No only me got his wrath.

Whats amazing is the doctor was a total pr*ck! I had to explain to him that the vaccinations a cats has is not for diseases we can catch and that I am concerned about the bacteria in the mouth and claws! He kept going on about the cats vaccinations and my tetanus... aaaahhhhhh Still no antibiotic as I'm now having to wait for it to infect before they will give me antibiotics

Re: Embarressed

Oh no!
