I had to opt out of this because of childcare issues & they weren't happy about it. Make sure you let them know prior to starting.

Re: NVQ

9-4 would be fine as the train from Edinburgh goes straight to where i pick my daughter up from after school care. I would maybe have to try and get someone else to drop her off at 5pm club.

I am starting to get quite excited about this! I am in the middle of the telford college Veterinary terminogy course, which is really good. I finish this in June, summer with no studing then college in September

Re: NVQ

If you are doing Telford and working in practice then it will be block release, which means you will attend 3-4 times throughout the year for periods of 3-4 weeks each block, unless they have changed the way they do it of course, but thats what I done when I was at Telford.

You would finish most days no later than 4pm, and start times are 9am.

Re: NVQ

If all goes to plan the course will start in September at either Barony or Telford college. I think the travel is more of a concern than the coursework. My daughter has clubs four nights a week. I do drive but they all start at 6pm except one that starts at 5pm.

What hours are the college days? I think if i can sort it out in my head and know that everyday won't be rush, rush, rush then I can maybe think about doing it.

Thanks guys for all your imput.

This went on for about 2.5 years - I had to sit exams & leave course early due to money - till I qualified.

Congrats on passing your VCA! If its any help I did my training with a couple of women who had young children (one had 3 year old twins!). As someone who doesn't have children, I found that I had to be super organised (which I wasn't then!) to juggle work, study and portfolio. Evenings would usually be reading college notes/testing myself and weekends were used for writting up caselogs.

Obviously how flexible you can be depends upon your home/child commitments but it can be done and I commend any nurse who qualified whilst having young children to look after. Even if you spend an hour or so on an evening after your daughter is in bed will help with either writing up portfolio or doing revision. Set aside a couple of hours over the weekends to dedicate to your training and you probably won't find it to be too much of a hardship.

Personally I found that you do need to organise yourself properly to succeed without too much stress during the two years. Its a difficult, time consuming training period however your boss must have faith in you to do this having recommended it to you so see how much support you will get from your practice too.

Good Luck!
