A guy brought it in for his friend, just for something routine & was chatting to the vet saying;
"Oh yeah, used to be a police dog he did, his command was................get him!!!!"

At which point the dog lunged at the vet ripping into his left shoulder & pulling him to the floor. The vet was taken to hospital & had to have a long time off work, as you can imagine.

Stupid client.....

Re: cat bite

I had my hand chewed by a collie once, munched all five fingers & punctured into my knuckle over my index finger.
He went through to the bone on both sides of my middle finger, and to this day I still haven't regained proper sensation on that bit of finger feels like I have pins & needles if I touch it.

I went to A&E (I'm quite a regular!) had it xrayed & dressed. Had to go back & fore to hospital every 2 days for dressing changes, it got horribly infected & had to go on lots of ABs. They dressed it with wet-dry iodine swabs, which the nurse promptly wripped off dry at one dressing appointment (I think the people in reception probably heard me shout!)I had to wear a sling too.

I had about 3 weeks in total (I think) off work. Still had to stay off once all the dressings were off because of the risk of infection with the new fragile skin. I wasn't really complaining tho!

I got bitten & scrammed by a kennel-guarding cat on friday on the underside of my right arm. It looked awful, bruised in big blue/purple rings around where he bit. Did wonder if it might go gooey, but it's been ok so far.

I knew some cat bites could be nasty but had no idea!

I have only been bitten by one cat (3-4times though!) which had a broken back - so fair play (we PTS soon after) Didnt get abs till 36hrs later due to no local doctor would see me - my doctor is 20miles away and didnt fancy waiting in A&E! My hand by swollen and very sore - hot to touch.

Got no sympathy from a large number of staff - who just said these things happen! Should get them to read this thread then they would feel guilty! Got home an 4 hours later it was throbbling like h**l and I took off the bandage and had to reclean the wound to remove the puss comming out and treated it with Mag sulph twice a day for the next week . I think the hospital was relying on the antibiotics to solve the problem ( no time off work when your self employed )

Dad had a worse bite on his wrist from a cat we were trying to put in a carrying box, as it was hanging on and dangling off his wrist. we got it in its box and phoned the owners to pick it up as Dad could not drive ans had gone by taxi to A&E ( I could not drive at the time). The owners turned up in their Rolls to pick up the cat(they did not relly need to used our C & D service!! and did not even ask how Dad was). They borrowed out carry box and said they would bring it straight back. 6hours later i rang them as they had not brought it back ! they brought the box bck two days later and still no enquiry as to how Dad was, (Owners!!).

Keep the wound clean and I hope you feel better soon .

Anyway... Nicks head wound..

Nick and I used to be house mates and at the time we where working for different practices, I received a call from someone to say that he had been bitten by a dog at work so they rushed him to hosp where they bandaged him up and sent him on his merry way. During the car trip home he started to bleed profusley so he got rushed to another hospital (one which was closer to where we lived) when they received him at A&E they said he needed sutures! Due to the blood loss etc they kept him in for a few days because he was on IVFT and having his blood gasses monitored.
