My dog got attacked yesterday by another dog when she was out with my other half. He rushed her down to work where she had a tear in her leg, numerous puncture wounds and now a very swollen leg

Re: Dog attack

If the other dog was on a lead, surely your dog must have gone near it to get within biting distance? It's possible the other dog felt threatened by your dog being so close hence why it lunged. I always keep my dog close in parks etc and put her on a lead as soon as I see another that isn't off-lead - they're normally on-lead for a reason. I don't think it's appropriate to ask the owner to pay your bill - if her off-lead dog had attacked your on-lead dog without provocation then that's a different matter. However unsuitable you feel the dog is for that owner, unless it was running amok on a long flexi-lead when it bit your dog it was being kept under control in the eyes of the law. Hope your dog gets over the injuries soon xxx

I agree with Kate on this one. I think it'd be unreasonable to expect her to pay the Vet bill for it.

From the other side of this, my dog is ALWAYS on a lead 'cos she is aggressive to other dogs and it's annoying when people let their dogs come right up to her. My view is if they're on a lead, there's a reason behind it.

I'm not getting at your man or anything, I'm just giving a point of view.
I agree with this too. I always keep Jack on lead around other dogs because he doesn't get on with them all. Hopefully you'll see the owner to suggest some tips for her so that she can get more control of her dog. Glad your dog is ok.

Re: Dog attack

Thanks for all the replies everyone. She is not too bad now still a,little swollen but wanting to play and wondering why we haven't taken her for a walk yet! I was just wondering what everyone had thought about the bill situation as I was quite happy to use the insurance as at the end of the day that is what insurance is for.. unexpected problems. It was just a few other people had said about it at work.

Hopefully this has not sent my dog the wrong way as she is nervous anyway bless her.

Re: Dog attack

if she was opologetic then she may ask how your dog is. this may give opportunity for you to diplomatically explain your dogs injury. this may make her feel guilty enough to restrain her dog more appropriately. If you appear approachable then this may give you chance to educate her therefore poss prevent other similar incidents with this dog.

Re: Dog attack

Maybe if you see the owner again, approach them with some tips? Halti or something?

Re: Dog attack

I totally understand where you are comin from. Mine was a couple of paces in front of my other half as she never strays far and doesn't bother anyone. The worrying bit is that the dog had lunged and the owner was dragged towards mine so we are worried about it happening to a smaller dog or worse a child. If w have to pay we do it was more the danger aspect that got us.

Re: Dog attack
Mine was off the lead but the dog had lunged before my other half could think about putting her on the lead. But even if she was on the lead she would have stood no chance as the other dog was so strong for the lady.y dog ain't bothered with other dogs she totally ignores them when out which is unusual for a lab! The woman was very apologetic but other half was too worried about ours to take details.

Re: Dog attack

this happened to my dad two weeks ago, he was out with bob who is a 12yr old ESS when he came across a man with two SBT's, one was off the lead the other was on an extending lead. one of the dogs was growling at bob so dad asked the man to put him on the lead but just a lot of verbal abuse and within seconds both dogs started to attack bob, as my dad was trying to get them off he also got very badly bitten!!!

the man didnt try to help at all, luckly a member of the public came to my dads aid, stopped the attact and helped my dad get a collapsed bob home.

it turns out the man gave false details to the passer by and so the police cant find him!!!

bob spent the whole weekend at the emergency clinic and my dad is still receiving treatment to his bite!

ohhhh it makes my blood boil that there are people out there who have dogs they have got no dam control over but dont seem the tiny bit bothered!

hope your doggy is ok
