Have been forking over soil but deepish up to about 1ft or so (may not be deep to other gardeners but feels deep to me) and not done a huge area about 2x3 meters but am now knackered not able to do more yet.It is heavy clay and bricks and stones and general rubble mixed in. My hands and arms are twanging from smacking the fork into rocks.

I think l will have to break up the chunks as well but was thinking of doing major turning first does that sound ok to the keen gardeners here?

Was thinking about black bags over other sections to kill off grass as well and I went out this morning and bought a small hand fork and a sort of push in and twist claw thinking l could also deweed/grass. Have ret. the claw within 1hr was bloody useless kept the small fork even though not weeding it will come in handy.

My spuds are chitting but window ones have gone very green, cupboard ones are ok as well and not green.
Bought a packet of tomato seeds last week and they are just sprouting so when big enough they will go in. am not messing about with 3" pots they are going out when get a bit bigger.
Was thinking of peas as well as l love hand picked peas but decided not to will see how this year goes to get my confidence up.

Any other soil tips or general advice for spuds or tomatos.
