RSPCA have had a few jobs recently that I wouldn't mind applying for, Animal Officer and their was a hospital assistant.
I recently applied at our local rspca centre for an animal care assistant post that was advertised for the day to day care of the cats and dogs. They idealy asked for an animal care qualification, i dont have this but have been nursing since 2004 so have plenty of experience. Guess what- I have heard diddily squat, ( I know they recieved the application as I handed it in personnally) so I sometimes think that if you dont have exactly what they want it is a waste of time applying.

Oh dear, I am sorry to hear this but don't worry you may still hear something, especially if they have had a lot of applications then it can take a while.

Re: RSPCA Job profile qualifications needed, are they really strict?

I recently applied at our local rspca centre for an animal care assistant post that was advertised for the day to day care of the cats and dogs. If maths is your only weakness but you can back up your application with other skills then there is no reason why you wouldnt be a good candidate, I reckon :) If its a job that suits you, go for it! The worst they can do is say no and if you dont try, youll never know for sure ^_^

Re: RSPCA Job profile qualifications needed, are they really strict?

I currently work for the RSPCA in one of their hospital, your application would never be laughed off! I'm sure that the hospital where I work your application would be given fair consideration taking into account the type of person you are and other experience etc I think the criteria is there as a guide but everything is looked at on an individual basis. I was a hosp assistant for 9 months before doing my training so should give you plenty of time to get the grade (you will need it for your VN training anyway)

I got a D in maths too but I did a National Diploma in Animal Care before I started at the RSPCA.

Good luck if you have anymore questions give me a shout!

They ask you to have 5 A-C grades those being in English Maths and Science. They ask for these grades so if they put you through the veterinary nurse training you have the correct grades. My friend trained through the RSPCA. Training you depends if they have any assessors working for them, now mentors they are called I believe? and it depends how many other hospital assistants are above you in order to train.

My friend did not have her Maths, so she done the ANA Qualification and done her Keyskills in Application of number.

I know must jobs I have applied for, have said "GCSE grade A*-C or equivalent." - so they should be ok with u having functional skills instead? I would apply anyway, as you have experience in this field, they should pick you over academic grades - as you are trying to better them any way!
