I think its better that a vet is offering general advice that is correct rather than a random breeder etc., . All the advice offered seems sound and isn't advising someone for definite what something is and isn't and therefore making a diagnosis but explaining the conditions in more detail to the clients..most clients find it difficult to take all the info on board in a consult so having someone re-explain a pyo for example seems fine to me. I note that the vet in question tries to clarify various points with owners as well. As to not printing off the responses and taking them to your vet, I am sure this is not because the vet wouldn't stand by what they have said , but because having a client wave a piece of paper "off the internet" at you in a consult is quite possibly the most annoying thing ever and would piss off others in the profession and therefore prevent this vet from being able to assist people to better understand their pets conditions etc., It looks fairly okay to me to be honest.. I know it would be easy to over step the mark with this sort of thing but this person appears to be within good boundaries and may help some people seek treatment or understand their pets condition better...def better than the pet shop girl/breeder/groomer/man down the pub giving dangerous and inappropriate advice

Re: What kind of vet has time to do this???

another worrying thing also is that the people on these forums asking the questions will delay going to the vet and use the forums instead

Re: What kind of vet has time to do this???

anyone reading the advice on that pet forums? would seem the vet is diagnosising and even suggesting treatment for things with out seeing any of them or suggesting they go see their vet! not good.

Re: What kind of vet has time to do this???

seems bloody fishy to me.

Re: What kind of vet has time to do this???

indeed - but he isnt alone, most pet forums have one or more - sometimes it may be that they do genuinly want to improve the health and welfare of the animals, and sometimes maybe it is just somebody wanting to get the client on their side and get a bit of free publicity into the bargain (and yes this does happen!)

Re: What kind of vet has time to do this???

Re: Ask the vet

Hey Candysmum,

The article is the guidelines that I use and recommend from the research that I have studied. As mentioned, this is a controversial topic and vets will differ in their opinions. By all means, discuss the information with your regular vets and listen to their feedback. I would prefer that you don't give them a copy of my article as I don't want to make enemies with other vets and especially the powerful drug companies who could end up seeking revenge.

Cheers trident
