You know, I have just re-read the messages of support on this thread and its truely amazing.

I dont come on here much now, really just to check emails.

There has been a lot of ill feeling and controversy on the forum lately, and as Arlo has stated in a different thread, there are so many topics, its difficult for him to keep a check on them all, though, in my personal opinion, for professionals, the Editor shouldnt feel he has to keep a check.

Anyway, to all the newcomers here, or to those who are unsure of posting replies, for whatever reason, just take the time to read this thread - this is what vetnurse.co.uk is really all about.

Keep posting on the forums, never be afraid to voice your opinion, but most importantly of all, never be afraid to ask for help, ever.

Give Arlo something to do!!!!!!! lol!!

So sorry to hear this Paula. At least she went peacefully in your arms. I have a 14 year old dog and I am gearing myself up for the moment I have to say goodbye. Can't even begin to imagine how hard it must be. She had a lovely life with you and she is lucky to have a mummy who cared so much for her xxx

She gave up, and slept coz she felt safe with you, you did what was right, and she knew it. YOU are her angel, and she will be yours. She waits for you, and whne the time comes, she will be at you side, tail wagging and saying thank you. Not for joining her, but for doing what was right at the time.
she no longer has pain, just peace, and is waiting for the time you feel that too. xxxx

Well, cant believe how long ago I started the original thread!

Sadly I had to have my special girl pts this afternoon. Recently, we increased her dose of tramadol, putting her onto it twice daily, she normally just got it at night.

But, you know something, I dont think it was the arthritis and spondylosis that got her in the end, well, I suppose it did in a way, if she was a healthy dog otherwise, I likely would have attempted to treat her, put her on ivft and associated meds, but I just think that today, her body had finally had enough.

Came home from work on thurs to diarrhoea, came home lastnight to bloody diarrhoea, got up this morning to bloody water. She was very weak this morning, couldnt be bothered to lift her head. Drank water but refused food.

My usual vet called out this afternoon, with another vet from the practice. Had a lot of trouble getting cephalic vein, after a few failed attempts on both legs, attempted to give it into the jugular. I didnt raise the vein or anything, I just sat on the floor nursing her and petting her.

By the time he did manage to get access to the jugular, she had already fallen asleep again in my arms. She was snoring and didnt flinch when the drug was given, just slowly stopped breathing.

It was very peaceful in the end, but I am heartbroken, devastated and feeling really vulnerable right now

Certainly some kind of decubitis ulcer - however, the aloe vera and bandaging seems to have done the trick. Hock looking much better tonight and most importantly of all, my girl is in fab form
