one of my svn's started the 3 year day release course at caw leeds in sept 2010. at the time we were under the impression that she would have nearly 3 years to complete the npl and assignments. due to finish in june 2013
this week she has

Re: [:@] NPL at CAW leeds

Not sure it's of any help at all, but when I did my clinical coach training at CAW last month they said the aim was to complete the NPL, assignments & written exams witinin the first two years. The idea being to allow the last year to help finish of any unfinished NPL or assigments where necessary and then constrant on the practical exams.

Though I have to say we have a 2 year placement student who they wish to take the RCVS exams in June which is not very practical for her as an individual. Our two 3 years students haven't heard anything about when to expect to sit their exams as yet, though they have been given a target of completing 2 units by end of March and another 1 by end of April. All of our students are at college today so will wait to hear if they come back with anything tomorrow or Monday.

and after i have discussed this with CAW, the VN dept will hear from me too.

thanks for your replies, i will keep you posted.

Poor myescough used to give different instructions every other week as rcvs behaved in exactly the same way.Thew it out then said sort it with no guidence.

I agree with what Juliet said kick rcvs head in very hard but be careful you will break for foot on the brick wall of stupidity they have over things...l see they never mess the vets around in the same way.

I would aim your barrel at the RCVS, not them. Please remember this is a brand new course and it appears the RCVS don't really know what they are doing either, so how are CAW expected to? In my own personal opinion, the whole course was rushed out in time for September and the poor SVN's have had the brunt of it. There appears to be no consistency between RCVS EV's (so what's new there!) and one person tells you one thing and someone else tells you another. At the beginning the RCVS said we could teach the course how we wanted to (word from word from J Molyneux herself) - but now they have changed their minds. Also, the funding is an issue, your student has to complete the course within a certain timeframe to be eligible for funding and the RCVS didn;'t really talk to the funding people either before the course was released. I work for a training provider and we are having similar issues, so I would say its a national thing, not a CAW thing.
