I have on several occasions had to explain to people that animals dont have the luxury of an NHS, people actually think that they get medical treatment free and that nobody pays for it!!! Errrr where do you think your national insurance goes? Oh sorry you dont pay any cuz your on the dole!!!

The amount of times ive heard my god my healthcare costs less!! Really?? Have you gone privately to have that lump removed? Grrrrrrrrrr

Or £100 for a plumber to look at my boiler for 10 minutes and tell me it doesn't work. I know it doesn't work! hence why I called the plumber out!

nurses

receptionists

insurance

Yes,it feels like the pet owning public think you should be doing the job for the love of it and for the animals......nice idea but doesnt put food on the table or pay the bills.

Another frustration:

Most people we see mention that it is harder to become a vet than a doctor. They 'know' that it takes 7 years to be a vet (and that it must be tough being a vet because 'animals can't tell you what's wrong with them'. They feel we do a difficult job.

Then try getting them to pay for your time.......

Frustrating industry we work in isn't it?

This is why I'm putting up a massive board in reception during VN week this year so our clients can see what we do and how long it takes to train!

My best mate is a human nurse and had a massive go at some random girl in a club who had said that vet nursing was easy and it wasn't hard to qualify.

This is actually appalling. Sorry I know she's your friend but how dare she accuse you of not being important?! Who does she think she is?! Being a human nurse doesn't give her the right to look down on everyone else. I wonder what she thinks of carers, retirement home workers and childcare workers who all wear a navy uniform!

I've had an NHS nurse ask this before - in a more polite fashion though - she was taken aback when I asked when she was going to qualify as a brain surgeon.

It also annoys me when people ask what I do and I say Vet Nurse but they somehow stopped listening after the word Vet, then proceed to ask what it's like to be a Vet?

Are we that insignificant to people that they don't even hear the job title??

i get that too and its normally when i assist with farm calls and the farmer cant get his head around the fact that im a vet nurse and not a vet student, i had one occasion where every family member that was present kept asking the same question "when do i qualify as a vet"

today we had a man come in with a cat w/out an appt saying his cat was moulting a lot. vet was busy so I had a quick look. couldn't see any evidence of fleas but said could be fleas, could be stress, could be the warmer weather. advised appt on monday then he said that if it didn't get under control he was going to replace the cat with a kitten who wouldn't moult.

Lady waiting to pay for food nearly pissed herself trying not to laugh
