I went for an interview last week and was told that my current employers would not be told that i had attended for an interview unless i was offered the job. So imagine my dilema

Re: Breach of Confidentiality?

Thanks sal - thats exactly how i feel. i am holding fire about making any comments to the interviewing practice until i find out if am offered the job or not. I dont think (not being big-headed) that i would take the job if it were offered as it already feels tainted and the person who opened their mouth will know what they have done of course and if they think i dont know it will make me look stupid anyway! Also i would hate to cause any sort of inter-practice ill feeling.

Re: Breach of Confidentiality?
Thanks. I just feel like they won't trust me as much now but two other people have handed their notice in recently as well. Its not like i have even been offered the job either.
well if two other people have already handed in notice maybe the practice could look at what is prompting people to leave?

I really wouldnt worry too much - if anybody asks just tell them your reasons for looking elsewhere - be honest and let them know what is making another job look more attractive.

Re: Breach of Confidentiality?

its happened to me before too. I wouldnt worry about going into work tomorrow - as has already been said there is absolutely nothing to stop you looking around same as for any other employee in any other job.

Depending on how the interview went, ie if you decided it wasnt for you you might consider calling the interviewing practice and letting them know what has happened. This sort of thing should be confidential and if there is a member of staff with a big mouth working there it would make me suspicious of what else they are letting slip and to who regarding their practice as a whole, and their employer may be interested to know

however if the interview went well and you think you would like to work there then hold off as you will be working alongside this gossip.

For me tho in this situation I would call the interviewing practice - speak to the principal and tell them I am sorry I am no longer interested in the job because somebody in their practice has a problem with confidentiality and a lack of professionalism and tell them why. For me I wouldnt feel happy starting a job there knowing there is a hotline to my previous practice and i would also have a problem trusting that member of staff - buts thats just me

Re: Breach of Confidentiality?

Thanks. I just feel like they won't trust me as much now but two other people have handed their notice in recently as well. Its not like i have even been offered the job either.

Re: Breach of Confidentiality?

It's not nice when this happens, but we have to remember that the veterinary world is very tight knit and incestuous, everyone knows someone else.

The same sort of thing has happened to me before now, but you just have to remember it is your right to attend interviews and not be uneasy about it......go into work with your head held high.
