I've spoken to Pet Plan today and just started a policy with them for her... on the middle amount of £6000 per year..... temporary exclusion on anal gland infection, to be reviewed in a year (I thought there would be a permanent exclusion!) and again partial/temp exclusion for 2 years on skin problem, to be reviewed when I have a definate diagnosis eg when I've finished her exclusion diet and found out exactly which food she is allergic too... again thought this would be permanent! All in all it suits me very well and I lurve Pet Plan!!

Will cancel my M&S policy in a months time and write an appropriate letter to them giving reasons why..... don't think it will make alot of difference but might make me feel a tad better......

How much do I wish most pet owners could make this comparison! I actually had one person sayin "God, thats costs almost as much as my car cost to fix-how is that possible" ????? So you're happy to pay a fortune for a heap of metal, but not for your treasured family cat?!? And how many mechanics (no offence to mechanics, I think they work hard too!) spent 5-6 yrs at University?!? Whinge over!

I have my pooch with pp and when i get my new pup in a few weeks he will go with them too. Wouldnt use another company. Only annoyance ive had with them was after our pp rep told me the excess was going up by a tenner so that premiums didnt have to. Excess went up a tenner, premium went up a couple of quid too. Wasnt happy about that but i couldnt do much about it. I pay about £24 per month (with veterinary staff discount), its quite alot of money but i pay more for my car and my pooch is defo more precious that thank hunk of metal

Said that to 1 client, but she still wasn't happy. She'd never claimed and felt it was unfair. I, however, have 2 cats. 1 is always broken, the other isn't. The older one is the "working" cat, she's more expensive premium wise, but if the fact I claimed affected the boy's premium....I'd be stuffed! lol! £5000 in 1 year for 3-4 different conditions. That's just 1 yr, think I've claimed every year for him over 9 yrs!

completly agree,

petplan are the best

i did have some admin probs with pplan last year when we moved house and bank at the same time, but we resolved the problem.

i still say they are the best, they only sell pet insurance.

to me the rest are a false economy

HI... thanks for your replies... just wanted to see what peoples experiences were..... am really, really annoyed with myself and M&S.... they used to have a good policy... but have just renewed my dogs and it has gone up by about 40%... have put a claim infor skin prbs/ food allergies last year... when I phoned up to ask why they said it had gone up so much because I had put a claim in.

Have google'd reviews today and everyone seems to be in the same boat...didn't want to just rely on Google........ it's dire but there is not alot you can do... they have you over a barrel!

Am weighing up the pros and cons of changing companies.... would only change to Pet Plan (have my cats with PP) .... but would mean wouldn't be able to get cover for her skin probs/allergies which are all under control anyway now, and her anal glands.

It just really pees me off that insur co's can change the actual facts of the policy that you originally took out with them... how does it work even if they do change their underwriters? .... surely they have some obligation to continue with the same or similar terms and conditions from when you 1st took out the policy, if you have continuously paid all your premiums?? It looks to me that the current underwriters really don't want to do pet insurance.... they are increasing their premiums rediculously.

Should of said, they did pay out for cruciate treatment really quickly.

I have one of my cats insured with them, claimed for vomiting in the first year of the policy and they put my premiums up 50% in year 2. Thats just one of the many joys of being a pet owner!! they paid out really quickly though and have never had any problems with them.

I have my 17year old cat insured Its 22.99 a month..cant insure her with anyone else now :S

It started out at 6.99 with no excess!

They do pay out though, no problems noted there.

My sis in law had it for her dog. After claiming for a cruciate they put it up from £250 to £600 so she told em to stick it when the sun dont shine. They wouldnt cover the condition after 12 months was up anyway so she moved to p.plan.

My Mum used to use them but the premiums went up to a rediculous amount so she has just cancelled it. She chose them originally as there was no excess to pay but I dont think they do that anymore.

I have one of my 6 cats insured with M&S. As I recall they doubled the premium at the first renewal and it has gone up in leaps and bounds since. Unfortunately said cat fitted after I had bathed her one day when she came back from stud, so I daren't change her insurer. I have never claimed for her and she has not fitted since but still the premiums rise! Oh and she is only 3 years old.
