It's a difficult one this as it's so hard to find something that you enjoy and that pays well!!

I currently work in an advertising agency and I hate it - I know that I am a well paid profession but the hours expected are also ridiculous and completely thankless. I know people who work weekends and until 10pm most nights yet don't get paid any extra for it and are simply working to make someone else rich. At least with the nursing you are really helping people and animals. I feel embarassed to say what I do and you should be proud, I hope to be working with animals one day and feel good about what I do.

I just thought I'd let you know that the 9-5 might not be as good as it sounds - you get paid more but it'll only cause more stress and unhappiness. Stick with what you love.

I hope you find a solution to your problems - sorry I couldn't be of any help!!

[/quote]

I second that, I am 28 and done every job under the sun, some very well paid. In fact I am earning the most in my current job of waitressing. I hate it and the day I qualify as a VN, I will be soo happy. Money isn't everything, believe me. Your doing a job where you make a difference. Do something on the side like dog walking or pet sitting and locum if possible. No job is perfect but I am paying myself through college so I can qulaify as a vet nurse. It's my dream job and my partner earns bad too but its job happiness I want. I would alsolike to breed Labradors as well, eventually. Just try to see the good in your job, your doing a job that people are queing up to do!

Re: Making Money

Geniverger - I once got a load of stuff to the till and found out all the clothes came to £2.50!! This gives you a percentage cashback on loads of purchases and gives you general offers too.

Also checking for voucher codes should you treat yourself to a meal out - or just checking for general shopping vouchers online. Just google 'voucher codes' for a variety of sites!

Another one is changing your gas/electricity supply or yout bank account Some companies give you £100 or so cash for doing these!

Re: Making Money

I'm on that already; I found it when I needed banking advice but I read the money saving threads regularly :)

Re: Making Money

Geniverger it might seem a silly Q as l don't wear make up but if money is short is make up not a total waste of money other than using up what you have?

I agree about the washing machine l had to get a new one xmas time and l paid a bit extra but has varyable fill and 30deg was on quick wash takes 0.2kw power the next wash up at 40deg quick wash is 1.5kw etc upwards lots of other progs l stick to basic.

My old one was power hungry l am sure it was so old. Computers and monitors also chew power so l have taken to Brians new laptop.

Here's a few that I've discovered which seem mundane but have actually had a positive impact on my disposable income;

Buy washing powder instead of tablets/gels/liquitabs and ignore what it says on the box. I use 1/3 of what I'm meant to for a full load, and use a capful of cheap £1 fabric softener in every wash and everything still comes out really clean and smelling gorgeous. I also wash on 30 degrees so you don't need a hot wash with that little washing powder. Obviously if your clothes are very dirty then use more, but you can make a big pack of washing powder go a looooong way.

When you're making dinner, make twice as much (buying in bulk is also cheaper at the supermarket, e.g. 500g pasta is more expensive per 100g than 1kg...) and take the rest for lunch the next day. My colleagues sometimes get jealous of my lovely lunches and I know I've got something warm and hearty come lunchtime, which is a real boost on those busy days. I made an enormous ginger ginger chicken teppan (from the Wagamama cookbook) tonight and it's made enough for lunch for the next 3 days!

Make foundation go further and do your skin a favour by adding a small amount of regular moisturiser to it. This also means you can control the tone of your foundation as well.

If you're planning a big night out, invite the girls (or guys) over for some pre-drinks beforehand while you're getting ready. I do this now and spend half as much when I'm out because I've already had a few, and buying from the supermarket is always cheaper than buying in a bar. It's also really good fun and gets you in the mood for the night ahead, especially when you stick some cheesy 80's pop music on while you're slapping on the foundation (with moisturiser in it!).

Sorry if this all seems obvious, but some of these things have only occurred to me in the last few months so!

Re: Making Money

I wouldn't tell everyone if I won it.
slow down driving... normally l do 50- 56 in cb as told that was best speed. And as l travel mostly at night l wont cause a problem.
My point being dont have a heavy foot!

When you slow down rely on the gears more not the brakes you will use less... anticipate better look ahead dont sing to the radio and ignore the traffic ahead.

Might be a bit of a clique but I used to do Avon to supplement my wage the year before I got married. I started off selling to just friends and family and then started distributed catalogues in the village where I lived, turned out there was a huge demand and I made quite a lot of money out of it.

Also I have 2 friends who are Pampered Chef agents. They both have small children and part time jobs and do PC to earn extra money. If you havent heard of them check out their website. You earn 20% comission on your sales and one of my friends earns around £350 - £400 a month for 1 - 2 evenings a week.

Good luck.

Re: Making Money
