Does any one use them, or know if any good, and if cheap?

You must make sure that there is no oil on the slide (from taking the sample), drop the nail varnish on the bug and then lower a cover slip into place. Most last for years. I have never manage to preserve Sarcoptes or Demodex though!

Hope this is useful

Re: Microscope slide fixing agent

you can buy some carboard holders they are A4 size with recesses for a standard sized microscope slide. Some of them have plastic covers so you can store your slides as 'pages' in a loose leaf file. I also have some very old wooden drawers that you can store them in that have slots inside but I prefer the cardboard carriers. I am pretty sure I purchased my last lot through Brunel microscopes. I also prefer the larger coverslips for preserved specimens and the slides with a central recess for bulkier specimens like parasites. (these can be pricey but well worth the extra cost).

I think I have seen some plastic carriers recently I will have a look

I have a spray or a liquid I use now but sorry cant remember the name of either at the moment. If you ring NWL they will know what you mean as it was them that put me onto it. Failing that contact Brunel microscopes as I think I may have had it from them as well in the past. In the meantime if I remember will post the name on here.

really satisfying making your own slide collection - I disposed of a lot of mine on here a couple of years ago - wish I had kept some of them now but collection was getting far too big!
