I am not allowed any more. Last time they kept me hostage for about 2hrs before l was allowed to go. they said when l didn't match the pillow cases l could go. When l went they wernt happy but said ok however if l felt anything wrong l had to go straight to outpatients. they also said not to give any more as l always had bad reactions according to my card and that was the worst that l needed my blood more than others I was signed off quite upset as l enjoyed doing my bit.

Oh that's annoying Sally. My new workplace thankfully are really flexible which is great. Oh I meant to say earlier, I checked about nsaids and It's 2 days.

I'm 2 pints off my silver badge but with the long hours I work I don't have time. 30 mins for lunch not long enough and leave for work 7.30am and get home at 8pm. So annoying as I really want to continue giving but not allowed the time off unless I take it as holiday

Just got home from donating! I'm left handed so they were going to do my right arm...two donor carers felt and then the RN, gave each other a 'look'...so there was me thinking oh shit i've got rubbish veins!!! So they tried my left arm...carers weren't happy to do it still so RN did it! But it came out fine. Arm feeling a bit tingly but I feel fine. Glad I did it and will def do it again in 4 months.

I used to be a blood donor ( and loved doing it ) but I have now been diagnosed as hyperthyroid Now I on Carbimazole and have been told that I won't be able to donate until I am stable on thyroxine. How long have you taken to stabalise on Thyroxine so far ?

feel for you, you got a long slog ahead of you!! diagnosed with hyperthyroidism due to graves in 2006. three prolonged periods of carbimazole treatment - each time got stable, then went hyper again. had radioactive iodine in july 2009 and went very very hypo pretty quickly, started thyroxine in september 09.....STILL not stable. it is a fecking pain!!!!! any questions about it all feel free to pm, thyroid probs have been my life since 06 hehe!

I've done it in the past and felt none the worse for it. Good excuse to eat biscuits afterwards without being told to eat something more substantial!

Have a friend who did it regularly until she kept amost fainting / actually fainting afterwards, then she decided it wasn't such a good idea.

Can at the moment don't weigh enough, really need to fatten myself up. No success though as yet, pity as its something I would like to do again.

I was fine after donating but there were 2 men who fainted - the nurses said men tend to faint more than women!!

I intend to donate regular now as couldnt for a while as under the weight limit. They like me as I have an out of the ordinary blood group!!

After reading on here that some people have had lethargy etc after their first donation, but have been ok on subsequent ones, I'm going to pluck up my courage and donate again... just have to make sure I have a day off work afterwards, just in case

It just wouldn't be professional to fall asleep half way through a cat spay

When I was young I gave blood and each time I fainted. OOps!

I'm fine now only difference is then I was young, fit and healthy and now I'm older, not fit and overweight. How does that work?!

I have only felt funny on one occasion after giving blood- not sure why, just felt really really tired but nothing a good nights sleep didnt sort.

I seem to recall being asked if Id taken any NSAIDS within 48hrs of donating blood but cant remember exactly.

I haven't ever had any problems when giving blood. Doesn't make me feel different at all. They now make you drink a glass of water before you donate. Apparently it has shown less people to feel funny.

I give blood regularly and don't notice anything wrong, except for once I went soon after recovering from a bad cold and found that it re-occured, which might be attributed to my lowered immunity after giving blood, as I usually get over illnesses quickly.

I find it really relaxing and a real feel-good feeling giving blood. Everyone should do it!

I try to get as late an appt as poss so I can have a meal before I go then once I am home and I feel tired then I can just go to bed and sleep it off. I do sometimes feel tired a couple of days afterwards but I just think to myself that the person who needs my blood is in a much worse case than I am at the moment. I beleive that unless you have a disorder that means you cant give blood then everyone should do it- after all you would expect it if you needed it wouldnt you?!

I was really tired for the rest of the day after giving blood the first time. It still tires me out but not as much. You just need to make sure you drink and eat plenty before you go! They tend to force you to drink lots and eat biscuits while your there too.. lol. Also don't plan to do anything energetic afterwards.

I did it once but was a bit run down the next day, and kept falling asleep, so haven't dared do it again!
