Last year there was talk of creating an anaesthesia qualification for unqualified staff, so not sure if that is still going ahead or not. No one seems to know.

to what extent that prospective students will be allowed to undertake tasks such as monitoring anaesthesia/radiography etc.... who knows

I know that within human healthcare there is restriction for those that qualify as Assistant Practitioners (sort of our/their version of the VCA) in all areas of healthcare. For example APs in Radiography are only able to undertake extremity work under supervision of a fully qualified practitioner.

VCA, you mean the Veterinary Care Assistant course? I am starting that in September, hope nothing changes in it.

As long as the new qualification is accepted by the RCVS then it shouldn't make any difference. If they are offering a comparable qualification then it should leading to registration with the RCVS. There are two roles of the RCVS, one is the awarding body role which this new system will compete with , and the regulatory body, which it won't compete with. I see nothing wrong with a little healthy competition and it might make the RCVS pull its socks up for a change!!

i thought you must have read it wrong Caramel....but i does indeed say 'A new vocational VN training courseis being developed for later in the year to rival that of the RCVS qualification. It looks like CVS will be running courses from September...cant believe i had not heard about this : /

I think you find that the RCVS will be giving an award to a VN. like an outstanding achievement award.

i don't think there is or can be another awarding body, unless they areassociated with the RCVS, as the RCVS maintain the list and register of veterinary nurses.
