All comments have been very helpful & I shall keep you posted as to how i get on.

Thanks Again!

Re: Rvc diploma

Kim is right - I am currently doing the rvc diploma. It is academically harder and recognised as such. It will expand on what you learnt at uni, it is a Postgraduate Diploma! It is also academically recognised outside the vet world, and the credits you gain can be ued for entry to other courses.

Parts of it are RCVS accredited, and if having DipAVN on the rcvs list is important to you, then you can do the extra stuff via myerscough. However you can use Pgdip as post nominals anywhere else.

It also differs in that it is 100% online apart from the initial 5 days and 3 exam days over 2 years. Therefore it is really flexible!

Speak to Perdi Welsh at RVC - the closing date for 2011 applications must be soon!

She said the first year is a lot of what is covered in the degree (nursing model, reflective practice etc) but she has still found it challenging.

I think once you actually get into the more clinical topics then it is a lot more in depth than the degree.

The RVC advanced grad diploma isn't accredited by the RCVS so you won't get the blue badge or have it next to your name in the register. It is at a higher academic level than the DipAVN as it is a level 7 qualification and I'm sure that practices will recognise it. I suppose it depends on why you want to do it.

Re: Rvc diploma

Hiya

I'm doing the DipHECVN DipAVN at myerscough - to be honest I don't know how it links with the BSc Vet Nursing degree and how much it would repeat what you have already done.... I'm only in the first year so it has pretty much been academic writing, law and ethics, nursing care (care plans and nursing delivery), veterinary physiology.... As far as I'm aware this course goes into much more detail but you would have a head start if you are fresh out of uni - especially from the assignment writing skills etc. The second year I would image will be quite different to what you already know as it goes into much greater detail.

Why dont you give Myerscough College a call to find out more?? The lecturers are really lovely! It also depends if you want to go on to do the DipAVN - just be careful with the RVC diploma - I have heard that you cant actually go on to do the DipAVN qualification after you have studied that diploma!?! I haven't looked into that one, but one of the girls on the course told me this about the RVC diploma....depends what you are wanting to achieve at the end of the day?? Check out the website www.myerscough.ac.uk and the course is under the higher education part!
