Haven't checked exact details with my practice yet but have used the practices VDS a couple of times to check some situations but I have recently also taken out my own VDS cover on-line because I want to know that I am covered for myself.

Do you have a link for the nursing VDS cover? I wasn't aware it had been introduced yet. Last time I looked it was in the pipeline but admittedly that was a while ago.

As an add on. My practice pays my RCVS membership and we have unlimited CPD allowance

[/quote] I was thinking along the lines that if they pay for BSAVA/BVNA then you'd get reduced cost cpd.

I pay for it then claim the money back. Its only 24quid online so def worth doing! I hope I never use them but I'd like to know they were there if I needed them :o)

Nup. Membership doesnt automatically equal free CPD does it? And the allowance is for CPD only.

TBH, a lot of nurses don't use their full allowance, and it doesn't run over to the next year (ie to save up for DAVN or similar) without partners prior approval.

BVNA membership I can manage, as I've been a student up until recently so it's been cheap!

BSAVA membership is a distant dream at the moment - I sooooo want to join, but just cannot afford it! Grrr!

We do get a decent CPD allowance though (£600 a year)

We are going to have to pay for it ourselves.

We also pay RCVS fees ourselves - do many other practices cover this for nurses? I qualified at the beginning of Jan, but haven't been able to register yet as I just can't afford it! Thankfully my brilliant parents have stepped in and said they'll pay as a qualifying prezzie
