Is it a ton of knowledge, just pure passion for the job or a practical approach. I know it is a little of all but what do you think is the most

Re: What makes a good nurse?

[quote user="les punton"]

I think a good nurse is also one that can show some humility. There are some really first rate nurses and vets out there - fantastic techinal skills, enviable knowledge but as human beings - well thats the bit the really need to work on

Re: What makes a good nurse?

Patience of a saint

You need to be able to organise and prioritise and cope when things don't go to plan/under pressure. Compassion and Passion for the job is essential...you can do the job without it but are a better nurse with it. I agree with Sal too, the ability to carry on learning is important, and to not just carry on doing things the original way you learnt 'just because', things change and move on! Ok now I've babbled on so will shut up!

Re: What makes a good nurse?

yup agree with all of those - and for me a good nurse is also somebody who never loses the ability to learn, and to use what they learn no matter how long they have been on the job.
