Slippery instruments aren't popular with surgeons or scrub nurses! Just spray the moving joint for a split second (nozzle close to the joint), open and close a few times to work in, close joint to first ratchet and then wipe off excess with clean dry cloth.

Re: Ultrasonic cleaners
Meddis in the ultrasonic and essential to change daily, silicone spray is better for lubrication than 'milk' and there is no risk of re-depositing bioburden before sterilisation - all static water baths will support the growth of bacteria. Only moving parts need lubrication.
No offence sisterscope - you are the guru of all things sterility related, but I have been taught to use medizyme for this, meddis for cold sterilisation?

Lubricating instruments is something that has been bugging me recently.

We got some silkospray in at work, and have been using it regularly. I find that the instruments feel slippery even after sterilisation and use, and I'm concerned that the spray is forming a barrier during sterilisation? I've started drying them off with a lint free swab after spraying, before packaging, which seems to help.... Any ideas?

I have never been that keen on it, but I have used it because if you are not careful when the instruments are autoclaved you can get a build up of deposit in and around joints and over time this can be corrosive and cause pitting, but its ok if you use it carefully as an occ bath

Re: Ultrasonic cleaners

Sorry, being dense but what is instrument milk??

Re: Ultrasonic cleaners

10 mins in Medizyme (green stuff) made by the dudes that make Trigene!
